Specific Responsibilities
Strategy & Innovation
• Work with Design and Merchandising for preliminary design research, including competitive analysis; pull fabrics, develop concepts, assemble presentation boards for meetings, prepare mock-ups, color-ups, inspirational photos.
• Work on development of initial seasonal design category in context of larger assortment.
Operations & Results
• Design according to style plans, sales needs and emerging trends; ensure timely execution of product development calendar.
• Create Illustrator sketches and textile repeats; prepare specification sheets, merch boards and update as necessary.
• Ensure accuracy of product development logs, boards and design archives library; ensure maintenance of designs in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, WebPDM or shared drives.
• Research and coordinate raw materials and trims; maintain fabric/trim library.
• Review lab dips with design and merchandising team, send comments to vendors and maintain color standards; review prints and graphics and advise revisions where appropriate; coordinate fit process.
• Complete sample and production paperwork, request sample yardage, request initial protos, check samples in for market week.
Customers & Relationships
• Follow-up with internal customers and partners, including technical design, fabric, sales and production teams; facilitate interoffice communication.
Leadership & Teams
• Contribute positively to team dynamic and manage up where necessary.
Skills and Requirements
• Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills; team oriented.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; highly detail oriented, meticulous and creative.
• Knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, silhouettes, color ways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim.
• Bachelor’s degree in fashion design.
• 3-5 years experience in apparel design.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, CAD and Mac computers.
• Proficient in Ned Graphics a plus.
• Background in designing woven shirts, sweaters and neckwear a plus.
