The Planning team is responsible for ensuring HSN has the right amount of product for our customers to buy. It must be priced right, placed and promoted to maximize sales potential while minimizing inventory risk. Our Planning team makes sure we provide the customer with a great shopping experience any time she is shopping with us.
The Merchant and Planner collaborate to tell the product stories on all of our shopping platforms, while being flexible, responsive and agile in presenting the right products that will meet consumer expectations and provide the best in quality, value and experience.
Planning Internship Overview
The Planning Internship program is designed to provide an overview of the planning function. Through this Internship, you'll gain experience by working with a Planning to support the merchandising group in writing the shows to attain sales and gross margin. The Planning Internship provides you with a unique opportunity to observe the planning process including writing a show, planning rotations, forecasting sales and monitoring inventory levels.
A Day in the Life
• Achieve HSN's internship program global objectives
◦ Understand the company's mission and strategy and develop an understanding of how the global plan helps define business unit strategy and goals
◦ Develop an understanding of divisional organizational structure and the cross-functional relationships that the business unit has with other parts of the business
◦ Gain practical industry experience in a profession that aligns to the desired career path.
• Develop an understanding of the Planning function and how it relates to electronic retailing and company goals
• Attend Programming, Today Special, MBR, and Staff meetings
• Develop an understanding of Item Life Cycle in electronic retailing
• Learn how to write a show to attain sales and margin plans
• Develop an understanding of how to analyze show performance and develop future strategies
• Learn to manage inventory levels
• Gain proficiency in planning tools such as SPT, Retek, and Business Objects

Must Haves
• Working towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field with the ability to obtain course credit through the college or university for unpaid program
• Commit at least 20 consistently scheduled hours per week; interns can work up to 40 hours per week and will have the opportunity to meet the hourly requirements of the university
• Proficient in Microsoft office programs
• If not local, temporary relocation to St. Petersburg, FL.
