We are currently seeking an experienced Woven’s Designer to support and work alongside our Senior Woven’s Designer with a particular focus on woven dresses, skirts and tops product. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the development of both new and existing ranges and as such we are seeking a seasoned designer with a strong track record of success
You will be versatile and dynamic in order to drive newness and innovation across the category with flexibility to work across multiple products, whilst working at pace to deliver against critical path deadlines.
Key responsibilities
• Produce woven garment designs for Superdry with a particular focus on dresses, skirts, shirts and tops.
• For each season, prepare a series of design ideas and inspirations, and agree overall seasonal direction and specific design briefs with the Senior Designer and Head of Design.
• Design a collection of women’s woven dresses, skirts, shirts and tops each season, delivering designs in a wide range of fabrics, styles and product types, all of which reflect the Superdry design handwriting and product brief.
• Produce technical garment specifications to enable factories to produce right-first-time samples and garment technology to rigorously test the sample products for quality control purposes.
• Monitor best/worst seller activity and suggest actions to respond.
• Actively contribute into the development of the sourcing strategy for your range.
• Produce design overviews and product information required by other Superdry business functions such as selling events/marketing/styling/PR
• Design products to achieve the department pricing architecture.
• Identify and deliver detailed style direction to develop existing products, as well as proposing new product opportunities for your range.
• Combine knowledge of the market, emerging trends, fabric innovation and strategic direction from the Head of Design to define the aesthetic direction for the product area. Implement this direction and innovation into the development of your range
• Proactively brief in new trim and labelling requirements for product and design spec packs.
• For your part of the range, balance core and newness, taking considered risks with key shapes and colours to maintain credibility and interest
• Fully utilise the relevant CAD systems, ie Illustrator, Photoshop etc.
• Attend fit sessions with technical team in order to maintain fit consistency within product area.
What we’re looking for
• Deep understanding of different woven silhouettes and fabrics, strong technical knowledge of fabrics and garment construction.
• Strong experience designing woven dresses, skirts and tops from a high quality brand, retailer or supplier.
• Face-to-face supplier liaison is a critically important part of our design process and it’s vital that candidates have experience of working within a similar structure.
• Liaising directly with suppliers to brief in fabric sourcing and design packs.
• Experience and willingness to travel to visit factories in the global supply base regularly.
• Experience of producing tech packs for factory suppliers and garment technologists.
• Strong attention to detail with an ability to develop intricate designs with a unique style.
• Ability to deliver multiple designs per season, working to a strict design critical path.
• Deep appreciation for the Superdry style of design and design handwriting and able to communicate this style via a portfolio of work that demonstrates a feel for our unique design language.
• Be able to work on your own initiative and support the Senior Designer.
