Purpose:
Responsible for researching trends, ideation of new concepts and creating compelling stories to meet the brand aesthetic. The Design Manager works with the apparel team to ensure that each product meets the categories product brief and the seasonal design direction set by Creative Direction and Senior Management team.
Key Accountabilities:
Implement the seasonal Direction of the Category according to market trends ensuring consistency though products and ranges
Advance category strategy through innovative apparel concepts/stories
Influence the creative vision for specific ranges across the category
Mentor, inspire and grow direct reports
Accurately depict sketches, designs, ideations, technical drawings, and other required art / illustrations
Effectively and efficiently navigate and use Reebok software tools and systems
Create technical drawings and representations of fabric, trim, graphic, color and products such that construction information is interpreted exactly as intended
Visualize seasonal ideas for ranges and product concept
Conceptualize and design ranges in the specific Category and manage the creation process of the line range
Proactively manage the creation of new products and prototypes
Create supporting artwork that illustrates design concepts and tells stories
Ensure an efficient process and communication flow between design, marketing and development
Select appropriate methods of communications to accurately convey technical information in informal and formal situations
Ensure proper handover of product design to development
Creativity:
Translate fashion and culture trends to the brand, products, product lines, design concepts, color, and graphics
Employ multi-dimensional thinking to ideate and discover new perspectives, view points, or approaches
Use unorthodox or atypical ways of solving problems to conceive innovative, usable concepts/ideas
Reebok Design DNA:
Ensure the product successfully meets the brand aesthetic by adhering to Reebok design DNA fundamentals
Ensure construction, finishing techniques, and textiles enhance product usability
Research and apply new and innovative ways to use existing & new techniques
Attend and contribute to review sessions for designs, construction, fit, and/or prototypes
Ensure design reflects market needs and product brief requirements
Use relevant and appropriate resources to accurately determine, anticipate, and validate current and future trends, competition, retail landscape, and cultural drivers
Gather and apply market research and/or consumer feedback to accurately anticipate and fulfill consumer needs, and identify consumers and trends
Financial Aptitude:
Create / design products that integrate technology, function, and design aesthetic and remain within cost margins
Resolve cost / margin issues and ensure product / design realization and execution, against the targeted Go-In-Margin, quality / pricing, and timelines to meet market requirements
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Profound knowledge of apparel design
Excellent communication skills
High level of initiative and maturity
Problem solving attitude & can-do personality
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in fashion or apparel design
8+ years of apparel design experience
Advanced level in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop a plus
Knowledge of garment construction, garment fit and costing
Strong negotiating and influencing skills
Presentation and Storytelling skills
Prior management or mentoring of more junior designers a plus
