The Alliances team works to provide our customers with seamless travel around the world through agreements between United and other airlines.
Job overview and responsibilities
The director of alliance development is a deputy position to the MD – Alliance Development and is responsible for the negotiation, implementation and execution of the commercial and operational aspects for a portfolio of United’s Joint Business Agreements, bi-lateral partnerships and Star GmbH relationships. This position will interface with other key disciplines across the enterprise to lead the implementation of code sharing and other alliance related initiatives related to their portfolio. As the MD positions require a high degree of travel, the Director will often have delegated primary responsibility and authority for continuity of efforts within the department.. The director will also be the first point of escalation for relationship managers and will have responsibility to ensure United and its portfolio of partners uphold the operational, commercial and customer service integrity of their agreements.
• Responsibility for alliance activity including ensuring day-to-day execution of operations, Proactive development/implementation of current and prospective partnerships and related relationship management on behalf of airline
• Drive technical (IT) innovation, development and optimization efforts with between the airline and strategic partners
• Budget and manage capital costs for alliance partnership implementation and development
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree
• Strong knowledge of alliance contracts, operations, and economics. Broad understanding of interline sales, customer process and related technology
• Minimum 5 years airline experience
• Must have broad understanding of airline business model and ability to comprehend and execute against complicated contracts
• Solid understanding of the airport environment and customer processing
• Broad knowledge of airline IT infrastructure
• Strong relationship, communications and leadership skills
• Must have ability to influence others toward a common goal
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
