Director - Model Risk Management
Summary
Green Dot is seeking an experienced Director to be responsible for the overall governance of model risks. Specifically, the candidate will ensure that model risk management policies, standards and procedures meet the expectations of Green Dot’s management and regulators, and all required activities are executed in a timely manner. In addition, the candidate must perform model validation and ongoing monitoring of model performance. The candidate must have previous experience in management of model risk.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for maintaining model risk management (“MRM”) policies, standards, procedures and model/tool inventory
• Work closely with company-wide Business Units and stakeholders to identify and document models/significant tools, and perform risk and control assessment
• Provide MRM expertise and guidance to model owners, developers, users and colleagues on model/tool lifecycle and risk management methodologies
• Perform independent validation of various types of models/significant tools, including but not limited to mathematical, financial, fraud and AML models/tools used by Green Dot
• Liaise with model owners, developers and users to monitor model usage and performance and report validation findings
• Oversee and track completion of corrective actions plans as a result of model oversight activities
• When applicable, review independent validation and periodic review work performed by colleagues or third party on company-wide models/significant tools, including on-going monitoring of model performance, documentation and controls
Requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of experience, OR a Master’s degree with 3+ years in finance, financial engineering, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering or related fields. Industry certifications a plus (e.g. CFA, FRM)
• Experience with quantitative modeling and analysis within the financial services or technology industry
• Extensive knowledge and experience in model development, model management, model validation and/or model oversight for various types of model/tools
• Extensive knowledge in model risk management and framework, and associated regulatory requirements such as FRB’s SR 11-7 and / or OCC’s 2011-12
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, strong controls mindset and willingness to proactively investigate issues and develop solutions (both tactical and strategical)
• Possess general understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design
• Advanced Excel and data management skills backed by extensive working experience; knowledge and experience with AML and Fraud rules preferred
• Programming experience with software applications such as SAS, SQL, VBA preferred
• Proven experience in project management, understanding of complex business processes, risks and controls. Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and follow through on completion of high-profile projects
• Ability to interact with all levels of organization as well as internal and external customers and to communicate technical information to any audience
