Identify new emerging trends and technologies and applications that can be tested and prototyped to meet current and future customer needs. Work closely with engineering, product development, technical marketing and executive staff in setting and communicating technology roadmaps and integration strategies. Provide strategic innovation direction and leadership to create and capture value for both Panasonic and our customers through the introduction of new products and services. Lead customer innovation and consulting workshops in conjunction with internal and 3rd party design and innovation teams.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Innovation
• Direct innovation activities that lead to new value streams for the company, and/or enhance the competitiveness of current product lines.
• Conduct research into key technology and consumer trends that are relevant to the company’s addressed and potential new markets.
• Regularly publish a company technology outlook and help define medium- and long-term strategic roadmap.
• Create collateral or storyboards to articulate new ideas and opportunities. Evangelize key ideas with internal peer groups and executive staff as well as externally with customers and partners.
• Work with team members and 3rd parties to develop integrated, holistic concepts that span technologies.
• Collaborate with the global sales teams to understand regional marketing opportunities, challenges and develop innovation strategies that meet their unique needs.
Design Management
• Lead design resources, both internal and external, as they may be used in the development of PAC products and product concepts.
• Define benchmark and ensure consistency of design quality of the PAC product portfolio.
• Manage in-house design resources in PAC Lake Forest office and ensure their capability to meet related product needs
Global Innovation Studio Management
• Lead the strategy, development and management of the company’s global Innovation Studios
Customer Consulting Leadership
• Facilitate innovation and strategy workshops for both, working with both internal and external design, technical and commercial teams.
• Lead teams in the creation of outcomes for customers through collaborative sessions, workshops and other onboarding activities.
• Lead the development of a company-wide consulting capability
Industry Position & Communication
• Perform as a thought leader and innovation expert in our industry and inside the company
• Lead the innovation strategy for industry events and product demonstrations on site, at OEMs and at PAC global offices that reach targeted customers
• Present new innovation concepts to customers, press and industry experts. Participates in press interviews. Participates in filming for company promotion.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Contain a broad vision of the market with the ability to identify trends that can open significant new growth opportunities.
• Ability to engage Executive level and at detailed design engineer level.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders and external personnel. Manage senior technical and design leaders of external companies.
• Able to identify and then manage unforeseen challenges necessary for success in various areas of responsibility.
• Ability to evaluate new business and technical opportunities quickly, decisively and with broad success.
• Proven ability to lead diverse teams in a matrix organization, and to build consensus leading directly to actionable projects that create value for the company.
• Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, across cultures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 12 years of experience in design, technology and innovation research and strategic product/market development.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, or related field(s)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Travel within and outside the United States - 25%
• Locate at Company’s office in Lake Forest or Pleasanton, CA
