Field Merchandising Director (Divisional)
Job Description
The Field Merchandising organization will focus on personalizing store/market assortments and in-store placement to meet their local community's needs based on customer type, geography and the local competitive marketplace. These actions directly correlate to improved sales and in targeted categories, with a heavy emphasis on Pro categories, by merchandising the right products in the right places at the right time. This team is responsible for the productivity of localized opportunities within their stores/markets.
The principle purpose of the Field Merchandising Director is to lead a team of merchants based in the Field, responsible for improving Lowe's ability to deliver on local market product needs based on the designated division. This role resides within the Store Merchandising organization, reporting into the VP of Field Merchandising. This role work closely with the Field Merchandising Execution team, Store Operations, Pro Services, customers, and our CSC merchants to uncover and execute upon local market product opportunities.
The Field Merchandising Director will also have primary responsibility for uncovering the voice of the customer in these specific markets, identifying local market product opportunities, and working with the CSC team to add these local/regional products to our assortments. The position will oversee a team of field merchandise managers that will be based in regional offices across the 3 divisions.
The Field Merchandising Director will also be accountable for developing talent within the Field Merchandising organization. This position will train, guide, and develop their team to meet the current and future needs of Lowe's and its customers.
In addition, Field Merchandising Director will focus on building and strengthening relationships with CSC merchant teams and vendors to secure the best opportunities for Lowe's and proactively meet the needs of customers. The field merchant directors (3), along with their VP will be responsible for building the field merchandising playbook, inclusive of the strategy, processes and business rhythms to measure return on their efforts. This will be a key input to the organization's success. This position requires travel.
Responsibilities:
•Sets financial goals and objectives for Field Merchandising team.
•Creates action plans that support initiatives and sales plans by maximizing business efforts and redirecting as needed.
•Creates forecasts within budget guardrails set by the VP of Field Merchandising.
•Identifies issues and develops and implements contingency plans in order to adapt to deliver on forecasts.
•Reviews annual turnover budgets and incorporates approved numbers into the annual business plan.
•Identifies and drives new opportunities to improve product performance for each category.
•Consistently understands the product offering of all competitors in the market and the potential impact to Lowe’s.
•Regularly visits Lowe’s stores and those of the competitors to better understand the needs of the product categories and customer.
•Approves the accuracy of all strategic and technical information (including but not limited to item selection, item description, price direction, patch/location information, promotion direction, template direction, and photography/assets) for all respective division product and/or promotion placement in Marketing/Advertising vehicles prior to set deadlines.
•Negotiates with vendors as needed to secure the best opportunities for Lowe’s.
•Drives the development and realization of projects related to Field Merchandising
•Obtains, organizes, and aligns resources to complete multiple business objectives focused on the organization’s strategy
•Develops Managers by helping them set the appropriate priorities and removing barriers and obstacles
•Delivers positively to measures of success for the business unit and company by maintaining a strong focus on the bottom line
•Provides employees a direct line of sight as to how they affect the business, translating strategy from Executives and communicating daily business requirements
•Works cross-functionally with all key stakeholders to deliver on localization objectives
•Provides effective and consistent leadership to each direct report, which includes clear communication of merchandising goals and objectives as well as responsibilities and expectations.
•Manages the projects and workloads of direct reports, ensuring appropriate balance of priorities, providing timely feedback and managing of personnel issues.
•Obtains resources for Merchandising and distributes them among the units driving or supporting the most significant contributions to Merchandising success.
•Ensures meaningful development opportunities for individuals in the organization so that the right people are being developed in preparation for succession opportunities.
•Focuses the business unit on the needs of the customer and sets goals that strive to exceed the customer’s expectations.
•Hires, trains and develops the talent necessary to achieve stated business goals.
•Interacts frequently with senior leadership delivering messages that are tailored to the recipient and effectively communicate the right message, at the right time for action to occur
•Stays current with industry trends related to Merchandising and focuses on how these trends can influence and support company strategy
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field and
• 5+ years experience in one or more of following areas: People/Team leadership, Purchasing, Buying, Sales, Merchandising, Brand Management, Category Management, Product Line Management or a related field OR
• 8+ years experience in leading teams/P&L management role, leading cross-functional teams to achieve P&L; experience in one or more of the following areas: Negotiating, Purchasing, Buying, Sales, Merchandising, Brand Management, Category Management, Product Line Management or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's Degree, MBA or related field
• 3+ years Experience in leading teams/P&L management role, leading cross-functional teams to achieve P&L; experience in one or more of the following areas: Negotiating, Purchasing, Buying, Sales, Merchandising, Brand Management, Category Management, Product Line Management or a related field
