Position description:
Samsung’s Smart TV Platform is the leading living room platform for OTT content consumption and for Content Partners to reach their users. The business development team is responsible for sourcing, negotiating distribution agreements, and managing partnerships with major OTT Content Providers on the Samsung Smart TV platform.
The Head of Platform Partnerships will report into the Vice President of Business Development and will lead a team of business development professionals focused on making Samsung’s Smart TV platform the pre-eminent living room OTT ecosystem. The Head of Platform Partnerships will be expected to develop and maintain C-level relationships with partners, design and implement partnership initiatives, negotiate large-scale complex agreements, and to manage and inspire an exceptional team of business development professionals to deliver against a business plan and strategy. The position will also require deep partnership with the Product and Technical organizations across the US and Korea to drive platform innovation.
The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in OTT platforms and/or the media industry, with a track record of negotiating and closing high-value deals with major content distributors, MVPD’s, TV networks and studios. The candidate will also require a deep understanding of the rapidly shifting trends in TV/OTT media, and have a keen nose for commercial value on all sides of the partnership. The position will require excellent communication/presentation skills, as well as the ability to drive close collaboration with all areas of the business.
Responsibilities:
• Lead strategy and execution of content partnership efforts to fuel success for the Smart TV app ecosystem, including identifying new opportunities and commercial terms to drive growth.
• Create, identify, and execute on unique business partnership opportunities, including leading cross-functional teams in the negotiation of complex media agreements
• Provide thought leadership on negotiation frameworks, programs, and narrative to the business development team and other stakeholders to maximize value for Samsung
• Drive feedback from partners and market intelligence into Product and Technical organizations to influence platform innovation
• Be a strong leader and ambassador, connecting across different parts of the business and external partners. Inspire the world-class team to greater heights
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Key skills:
• BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
• 15-20 years of relevant experience, including senior leadership roles
• Experience in digital media and platforms, with a track record of achievement
Valued qualities:
• Ability to deal with ambiguity, solve complex problems, and navigate large, global organizations
• Self-motivated, assertive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Passionate about technology and new media trends
