Autonomous Vehicles Director of Safety
Position Description/Overview:
We are seeking exceptional candidates to join our growing autonomous vehicle business team! Autonomous vehicles are an important part of Ford’s future and we’re looking for the best and brightest. The role will require expertise in safety policy and regulations, critical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and a “get it done” attitude to help make strategic decisions that will enable Ford to be a leader in autonomy.
Responsibilities:
This person serves as Ford Motor Company’s subject matter expert for AV safety and will represent the LLC in all internal and external interactions relating to AV safety policy and regulations, working closely with ASO, Government Affairs and OGC. Additional duties are listed below.
• Work closely with ASO to develop safety strategy for AVs including rulemaking and safety policy
• Lead the technical aspects of developing global industry-standards for AVs (new safety and environmental standards, test procedures, etc.) to support safety strategy
• Lead/Support the communication and interface with municipalities/states on technical issues related to AV safety
• Provide AV Safety Subject Matter expertise, and work closely with ASO, Government Affairs and OGC to enable the efficient deployment of AVs.
• LLC lead on managing regulatory issues associated with new business models, working with ASO/OCG.
• Represent state or federal hearings in support of AV rulemaking as needed to support safety strategy for AVs, and support communications for media inquiries on safety/regulation
Job Requirements:
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer or Robotics Engineer is required
• 5+ years of experience in safety regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 26262)
Preferred Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience designing and producing safety-relevant electronic control systems that meet FMVSS or equivalent experience in Safety systems other relevant industries
• 5+ years of experience developing standards with industry partners in the automotive industry
• Prior experience speaking publically or testifying as a corporate representative
• Technical depth in automation, electronics, and software development
• Persuasive written and oral communication and team-building skills
• Experience in passive and active safety technology and regulations
• Expertise in safety regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 26262)
