Job overview and responsibilities
Responsible for developing and overseeing, in coordination with other departments, the implementation of United’s strategy for environment impact reduction and external/internal messaging and engagement on sustainability platform. Projects include evaluating alternative fuels proposals and implementing same, implementation of strategy for Eco-skies brand, including communications/branding plan, developing sustainable products/services, provide road-map for energy efficiency and impact management (e.g. CO2, waste) including available grants. Will manage relationships with key external partners and support policy team on policy developments on carbon, etc.
• Coordinate with cross-divisional team company initiatives and environmental and sustainability reporting that communicate company projects and initiatives that reduce environmental impacts, including fuel efficiency initiatives, alternative energy sources, energy efficient or LEED construction efforts, recycling, and waste reduction efforts
• Strategic development and execution with support of cross-divisional team, environmental responsibility strategy action plan
• Develop with cross-divisional partners, customer engagement and branding for United's Eco-Skies program, including support for sales and other departments in developing consumer facing environmental products, media and brand exposure
• Develop strategy with cross-divisional partners on reputation initiatives and strategic communications (i.e. corporate environmental responsibility reporting, investor requests, customer surveys, external web communications, etc.)
• Develop strategy and coordinate cross-divisional efforts to reduce environmental impacts and enhance environmental efforts company-wide
• Development in coordination with cross-divisional team the alternative fuels program, including strategy, evaluation of opportunities, facility development with fuel suppliers, fuel certification, seeking/evaluation application of tax benefits and other incentives, stakeholder engagement on alternative fuels (FAA, A4A, etc.)
• Coordinate technical and financial due-diligence into renewable fuel companies for off-take agreements and equity investments
• Coordinate strategy on environmental sustainability programs (i.e. energy management, recycling, greening of products and facilities, offsets etc.)
• Support Sales and other departments in interactions on environmental products/interests with corporate customer accounts
• Build relationships with strategic partners to enhance customer value proposition and further build external company image on environment
• Coordinate with Director-Policy and Programs and cross-divisionally to develop policy positions on key areas on impact reduction including alternative fuels, policies to support further fuel efficiency improvements, availability of grants, potentially required social/environmental reporting
• Lead certain internal employee engagement work and support Community Affairs on corporate community engagement strategy
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in environmental policy/management or closely-related area
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
• 3 years of managerial experience related to the position
• Experience presenting complex ideas to senior management and/or external audiences
• Ability to analyze strategies and opportunities to build a relevant business case
• Experience working with key groups including communities, government officials, NGOs, employees, etc.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Preferred
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance or Environmental Management
• Strong grasp of key environmental challenges facing the airline industry
• Airline or airport experience
