Helen of Troy is hiring a Senior Director, Insights – for our Beauty division. The Senior Director, Insights is responsible for turning data into actionable insights. Insights is the primary driver moving the company from “I think” to “I know”. Insights is also the foundation for the development of new products, new marketing and even new brands. Insights will deliver rich views into the consumer, their problem, desires, unmet needs and unrecognized needs.

Our Beauty division is based in El Paso, Texas. Key Beauty brands include Hot Tools®, Revlon®, Pro Beauty Tools®, Sure®, Pert®, Infusium23®, Brut®, Ammens®, Sea Breeze®, Bed Head®, Karina®, and Gold ‘N Hot®. Under this portfolio of brands, products include hair appliances (dryers, straighteners, curling irons, hair-setters, hot-air brushes and shavers), brushes/combs, hair accessories, liquid hair styling products (treatments, shampoos, conditioners), skin care products, and deodorants/antiperspirants.
What You’ll Be Doing:
The Sr. Director, Insights will be an entrepreneurial minded expert with proven experience in successfully executing and managing a team based on three pillars of focus: 1. Ad hoc strategic and tactical research 2. Category management 3. Data analytics. You will have strong leadership and change management skills to develop a forward-thinking insights team. Ideally you will have experience working with larger brands, preferably with consumer products.
Senior Director, Insights Key Responsibilities:
• Primary Research: Develop cutting edge research methodologies to discover new insights with novel approaches to research or analysis.
• Syndicated Research: Smartly leverage syndicated research where possible to fill gaps in knowledge.
• Competitive Intelligence: Identify and communicate key competitive activities and product launches or changes.
• Category Management: Leverage Nielsen POS and panel data to arm sales and marketing with data and insights that improve business results. Primary owner of data for joint business planning with customers. Develop standard and ad hoc reports to support customer product line reviews and internal business reviews. Develop planograms.
• Data Analysis, Reporting and Visualization: Develop and manage monthly reporting against KPI’s and SMART business goals across all digital efforts with the ability to provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve and optimize.
• Trends: Identify and track beauty trends that inform marketing and innovation strategies.
• Sales, Marketing and Innovation Support: Work collaboratively and strategically with internal stakeholders and outside marketing research firms to develop insights that enable deliver of business commitments and development of best practices.
• Research Vendor Management: Select and manage best in class market research vendors.
• Analytics: In the future, manage a data science and analytics team to develop data lake, analytic platforms, machine learning insights and marketing automation.
• Thought Leadership: Keep up-to-date, monitoring evolving online media and technology trends as well as competitive activity with the aim of driving best practices.
Requirements for Consideration:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree preferred
• 10+ years’ experience with market research. Preferably in consumer products channel.
• Proven leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Expertise developing and programming primary research questionnaires that deliver objectively breakthrough insights.
• Experience using overnight online research tools such as SurveyMonkey and FocusVision Decipher.
• Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and solve problems creatively.
• Excellent follow-thru, detail oriented and hands on approach to proactively managing and directing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to present ideas and information clearly.
• Demonstrated understanding of marketing concepts and consumer behavior.
• Experience overseeing external research firms.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
