The Opportunity
Rodan and Fields is seeking an experienced Director, Convention to join the Events Team. This role will lead the Convention operations team and collaborate with the Director, National Events to develop the long range strategic design and direction of Convention as Rodan + Fields grows domestically and expands into new international markets. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned, multi-talented leader who can think outside the box to create “surprise and delight moments”, re-imagine what’s been tried and true, wrangle thousands of moving parts, and maintain oversight of all event operational elements. This senior role will report to the Director, National Events and will work collaboratively with cross-functional leaders, teams and vendors to launch, create and deliver a flawless event. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Collaborate with Director, National Events to evaluate and adjust Convention strategic planning to align with organizational goals and priorities, be scalable and maximize ROI, and continue to surprise and delight and exceed attendee expectations; Contribute to development and delivery of presentation to Executive team to gain alignment, and adjust team structure to execute against approved direction
• Lead Event Operations team of Senior Event Project Manager and Senior Manager, National Events and direct reports to execute an integrated event plan which includes internal kickoff, Executive alignment meetings, Convention owners meetings, comprehensive project plans, onsite staffing and logistics, and onsite contingency planning to execute Convention with operational excellence
• Foster a work environment that promotes individual high achievement and productivity as well as a collaborative and team oriented mindset
• Partner with Technology team to ensure all planning and timing aligns with Convention needs
• Build and continually develop an event operations team to successfully execute on the long-term, strategic vision of the company as well as support a growing, high-performance culture
• Develop and leverage the use of strategic partnerships to scale effectively, expanding resource availability and enhancing efficiency
• Stay abreast of the latest event marketing best practices, approaches, innovations and technologies; and share your insights with key stakeholders across the company
• In collaboration with Director, National Events apply analytics and insights from post-event debriefs to better understand attendees, their behaviors & interests, and improve engagement, driving the continual optimization of future events, strategies, and plans
Qualifications:
The right candidate is an innovative, self-starter with the ability to develop strategic goals and objectives, as well as lead the team through meticulous, big picture execution. This individual must have a strong event design and management background, overseeing the execution of 10,000+ attendee events. Superb leadership skills, ability to influence and guide C-Level executives, marketing, communication and demand generation skills, creative and strategic thinking, and a proven ability to execute.
• Minimum of 10 years in a related field including global event or incentive program design and management (direct sales experience a plus, but not required)
• 6+ years of management experience preferred
• Customer service background also preferred, as we work in direct contact with our field and place a high value on excellent customer service
• Domestic and international destination knowledge, along with a passion for travel and events
• Extreme attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and work across organizational boundaries, including a broad range of peers and executives
• Ability to manage a team autonomously to accomplish daily and weekly tasks with little direction
• Proven skills interacting with executive/senior management teams and external partners
• High level of proficiency with cloud based technology solutions and Microsoft programs including PowerPoint
• The ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines in a fast paced, rapidly changing work environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong creative and strategic thinking and deck development skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence others
• Commitment to doing the right thing, pushing beyond expectations and an ability to maintain a positive friendly attitude in stressful environments
• BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Travel up to 30%
