Shutterfly is looking for a highly-driven Tax Director. This position reports to the Senior Director, Tax & Treasury and will be responsible for managing the Company’s tax operations including but not limited to the global tax provision, forecasting, strategic planning, tax reporting, and compliance. The Tax Director will interface with upper management and various cross functional teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Fluent in accounting for purposes of tax provision preparation and review. Liaise with outsourced tax consultants and financial statement auditors on tax matters. Ensure accurate and timely consolidated quarterly and annual US GAAP tax provision calculations and disclosures, including effective tax rate, uncertain tax positions, footnote disclosures and quarterly/annual tax rate guidance.
• Lead and review, with external partners, all federal, foreign, and state tax returns; and manage audits and inquiries by governmental authorities.
• Research, analyze, evaluate and implement planning ideas with respect to tax return filing positions and operations
• Partner with cross functional teams throughout the company to ensure direct and indirect tax is accounted for correctly. Oversee Sales and Use Tax Manager for all aspects of transactional tax (sales tax, use tax, property tax, foreign goods and services tax, etc.)
• Maintain SOX tax controls around both income tax provision and transactional taxes.
• Manage a team of 8-10 tax professionals. Drive continuous improvements to the process and methodologies used in the tax department. Manage outsource service provides for exceptions delivery and efficiency.
• Support due diligence for potential future mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• 8+ years of income tax experience
• Big 4 tax experience
• CPA and/or JD preferred
• Ability to self-direct
• Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
• Flexible mindset and willingness to embrace change
• Detailed knowledge of income tax provision and accounting requirements under US GAAP (ASC 740 and related guidance).
• Experience with retail and manufacturing operations a plus
