Colllider Strategy Director
Job Description
Who is Collider?
Collider is more than a Brand and Innovation Consultancy, we’re a bunch of strategic planners, anthropologists, trend experts and innovators collaborating on an incredibly wide variety of projects around the world. As part of Yum! Brands, we work pretty intensely with Taco Bell, helping them come up with the next Doritos Locos Taco, reimagine the buying experience, position a new daypart and craft insightful communication briefs among other fun things. We also help KFC rethink their brand in France, the UK, and in about 15 other countries. We’re also directly involved in reinventing the future of Yum! Brands itself.
In the world of marketing and brand management, Collider seems to be in a very unique situation: we get the benefits of being on the client-side, but also the fun, freedom and creativity of agency life. We have a continuous and direct impact on the global business every day, but also aren’t saddled with the responsibility of executing all the strategy.
Although this is a client-side job, we have the good fortune to occasionally work with select brands outside the category to keep our edge sharp. We’ve worked Nestlé, Pizza Hut, Verizon, Toyota and other great brands in the 5 years since we opened our doors.
Company Summary
Yum! Brands, Inc., based in Louisville, Kentucky, has over 45,000 restaurants in more than 135 countries and territories and is one of the Aon Hewitt Top Companies for Leaders in North America. In 2018, Yum! Brands was recognized as part of the inaugural Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index. In 2017, Yum! Brands was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index and ranked among the top 100 Best Corporate Citizens by Corporate Responsibility Magazine. The company’s restaurant brands – KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell – are global leaders of the chicken, pizza and Mexican-style food categories. Worldwide, the Yum! Brands system opens over seven new restaurants per day on average, making it a leader in global retail development.
Since our spin-off from PepsiCo in 1997, Yum! Brands has become a truly global company going from approximately 20 percent of profits coming from outside the U.S. to approximately 50 percent in 2016. We’re proud to be the worldwide leader in emerging markets with over 17,000 restaurants, nearly twice as many as the nearest competition. With less than 3 restaurants per million people in the top 10 emerging markets, compared to approximately 57 restaurants per million in the U.S., we are on the ground floor of global growth.
Our mission is to build the world’s most loved, trusted and fastest growing restaurant brands. We are evolving KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell into iconic, distinctive and relevant global brands.
Importantly, we’re extremely proud of our 1.5 million employees around the globe and the unique culture we’ve built, one that’s filled with energy, opportunity, and fun. We believe in our people, trust in their positive intentions, encourage ideas from everyone, and have actively developed a workforce that is diverse in style and background. Yum! Brands is great place to be yourself, grow and make a difference.
Minimum Requirements
Who are we looking for?
We’re currently looking for a Planning Director to join our team in Orange County, California. We’re an ideas driven team, and need ideas-driven strategists who have a clear grasp of concepts and how they can affect a business. Your ideas are smart, surprising and super cool. They’re also well-grounded in deep, uncanny insights.
In this role, you’ll be running multiple teams of strategists (usually made up of 2-3 mid/jr level folks) on multiple projects around the world. These vary from innovation, to positioning to rethinking the future of the business. You’ll be working directly with c-level clients regularly, and have the flexibility to try out new, creative approaches on each project.
The ideal candidate has a special super power: you’re either a culture geek, an anthro-master, a killer creative strategist, or something. As long as it helps make you deeply insightful and creative, we’re interested!
More about Collider:
We get to work in our downtown loft, devoid of any corporate trappings, but get to have real, constant and immediate impact on one of the biggest food brands in the world. We’re passionate devotees of Behavioral Economics, irrational thinking, storytelling and the power of culture to elevate—or destroy a brand. We travel locally and internationally—doing projects around the world, but spend most of our time hanging out at our lab throwing up ideas on the wall and geeking out over cultural trends, marketing and brain science.
