Position Overview:The Director, External Communications is responsible for building mutually beneficial relationships internally and externally with media and other stakeholders to advance the reputation of Coca-Cola North America.
Function Specific Activities:
The Director, External Communications for Coca-Cola North America is a member of a high-performing team of communications professionals focused on telling the growth story of The Coca-Cola Company and its brands in North America. This role is specifically responsible for proactive storytelling about our business and brands with external audiences; serving as a company spokesperson; managing reputational risks through strategic issues management; overseeing resources and strategies for social media listening and monitoring; and coordinating communications activities related to issues management and crisis response.
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
• Develop image and reputation of the company in the media and in all audiences, granting the use of company-approved, consistent and accurate language.
• Build strong relationships with key contacts in brands, media, community, customers and bottlers in order to increase their receptivity to the company's communication and cope with any challenge on our activities.
• Serve as company spokesperson to the media and other external audiences on critical issues and announcements.
• Provide ongoing subject matter expertise and consultancy services to regional business management on the impact their business decisions have on key constituencies.
• Prepare (e.g., coach, train, rehearse with) the management to serve as effective media spokespersons.
• Develop and execute communications strategies to support company's business objectives with key audiences (e.g., consumers, customers, bottlers, media, community leaders, employees, other constituents).
• Manage and oversee outside PR agency resources and related budgets.
• Work closely with third-party groups and trade associations to ensure coordinated communications.
• Develop and manage systems and processes to ensure appropriate timely actions in response to product quality compliance and other potential crisis issues, including coordinating communications activities.
• Manage measurement tools and tactics to evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategies.
Education Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in related discipline
Experience Required:
• 10 years related experience with exposure in media relations, stakeholder/community engagement, and corporate/leadership communications.
