Position Summary
This role will be responsible for overall big data platform and operation success. It provides thought leadership as well as ensures deliverable/operation success. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated insights in big data technology, demonstrated success in leading big data platform architecture and operation, demonstrated experience in leading technical resources. This role is required to be hands on and self-own some of the most critical functions on big data platform. The scope of big data platform include end-2-end Hadoop technology stack e.g. infrastructure, security, data encryption, storage, metadata, various processing components, AWS infra/operation, production operation and success, BI infrastructure, self-service framework/portal, api, capacity planning etc. The resource must have in depth knowledge of the emerging Big Data market and hands-on experience with the Hadoop ecosystem.
At this senior technical leadership role, he or she will prioritize platform priorities by working with data engineering, technical PM, and business for overall business success. The role will actively communicate priorities and deliverable result. The candidate is expected to apply solid computer science knowledge to solve some hard technical problem. This role is also expected to take a data driven approach in defining/measuring platform/operation success. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in working with teams cross organization and boundary with one team spirit.
• Accountable for the big data platform, from strategic design all the way to framework development and daily operations
• Provide technical direction within the organization
• Hands-on experience developing “Big Data” framework at scale (using Hadoop and related technologies to manage high volume high velocity structured and unstructured data)
• Establish monitoring and management practices to proactively provide necessary capacity and performance
• Define and champion engineering best practice
• Work with other infrastructure teams to ensure platform stability
• Technical liaison with technology vendors
• Develop procedural and technical documentation, define best practice
• Customer focused and process driven
• “Can do “ attitude, and Ability to think out of the box and rapidly prototype and deliver innovative solutions.
• Ability to collaborate with Data Scientists and Business Analysts to define solution requirements and develop processes for provisioning data for wide ranging analytics.
Necessary Skills / Attributes
Requirements
• 10+ years’ experience in designing and implementing high available and high scalable big data systems with Hadoop technology
• 5-8 years of Python or Java/J2EE development experience with demonstrated technical proficiency
• 5+ years’ experience in leading data platform and operation team with demonstrated success
• Full lifecycle project development involving Hadoop and related technologies
• 5 – 8 Experience overseeing Hadoop environments and operating big data system to enable business success
• Industry expertise of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
• Extensive experience working with AWS components [EC2, S3, SNS, SQS]
• Analytical and problem solving skills, applied to Big Data domain
• Proven understanding and hands on experience with Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Impala, and Spark and other big data technology
• Demonstrated hands-on success with “can do” attitude
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Engineering
