Job Description
The Director of Value Engineering, North America is responsible for leading the identification, assessment and execution of savings projects on our ingredients and packaging that result from a more efficient formulation, design or usage opportunities. The candidate leads a team of 12 regional packaging and ingredient experts that manage cross functional savings projects. The NA team will ensure that the cost savings targets from value engineering (VE) projects are delivered on time, in full at quality and on budget.
Expectations of the Role Include:
• Lead a team of 10-15 pack and ingredient engineers in the ideation of cost savings opportunities for ingredients, packaging and finished products and processes that will improve the value proposition
• Develop the organization by building technical and VE capability in the NA region to maximize talent to deliver savings
• Deliver and execute against the list of cost savings ideation.
• Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Marketing, Procurement, R&D, Sales, Operations and Finance
• Gain alignment and decisions with stakeholders
• Assure the development of ingredient, packaging and finished product specification s that are fit for purpose and protect McCain’s interests.
• Bring creative solutions to technical commercialization challenges
Top Accountabilities:
• Lead technical team in the delivery of low to highly complex programs from idea to inception. In addition, develop and lead the development of highly complex business cases
• Build technical leadership capability to drive project ideas, assessment and qualification
• Engage key stakeholders to ensure standardized criteria for technical and commercial approval of savings
• Build organizational capability through skill development, coaching and training
• Drive individual accountability of performance deliverables and savings
• Collaborate with suppliers to drive ingredient and packaging changes that meet or exceed McCain’s expectations
• Build relationships within the organization to efficiently drive changes within the McCain business.
Qualifications and Experienced Required:
• 10 years of technical and professional development experience in consumer goods, preferably in food, and inclusive of people management experience
• Requires a BS in Food Science, Engineering or related technical field, with demonstrated knowledge of product commercialization. MS or MBA is a plus.
• Strong business acumen, communication, interpersonal, influencing and relationship building skills
• Successful candidates will have strong technical depth, dynamic cross-functional interaction and highly effective communication skills
• Solid theoretical knowledge of product development, manufacturing processes and procedures.
