The Director of Sensory Science is a U.S. based role that influences Kellogg sensory science direction across the globe. Playing a key part in the development process, this role works side-by-side with R&D, Marketing, and Insights & Planning to provide sensory and consumer insights that enable Kellogg Company to commercialize on-trend food & packaging.

HERE’S A TASTE OF WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
• Leading a team of 5-8 US based sensory scientists
• Globally influencing the sensory methods/tools used by project teams inside and outside of the United States
• Providing thought leadership on the application of established sensory methods as well as leading edge approaches.
• Working with outside organizations, suppliers and universities to bring the latest methods to Kellogg and establishing the Kellogg’s Sensory Science team as a leader in the industry.
• Collaborating with R&D to identify the sensory signatures that are the backbone of the brand-level, food stories.
• Partnering with R&D to bring the food story to life through neuro-culinary designs and insights into cross-modal sensory principals that drive captivating consumer experiences.
• Driving the application of analytical sensory lexicons of products and embedding the skills necessary to articulate the full sensory signature of our products, enabling our teams to express product differences, obvious and nuanced, in a consistent manner.
• Developing and embedding the sensory acumen of the R&D community such that they can tell the story of our food and co-create the food brief that is the starting point of every project.
• Managing a third party that executes descriptive analysis and discrimination testing.
• While the team reporting to the Director of Sensory Science is integral to food and package design and the neuro-culinary, consumer experience, this role does not conduct research to determine the probable commercial success of the overall business offering.
YOUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS
Required:
• Proven track record of translating sensory test results into actionable product designs.
• Proven track record of developing and applying innovative solutions.
• Extensive experience applying sensory science for a CPG company.
• Fluency in descriptive analysis, discrimination testing, and consumer research methods.
• Strong working knowledge of statistical methods utilized in bringing consumer products to market.
• Experience applying sensory methods to establishing the shelf life of new products.
• Demonstrated ability to foster creative behaviors and thinking within the team such that the team not only lives them but also promotes them to others so that an innovation culture is embraced
• High-level communication skills (written and oral), negotiation skills and leadership ability to direct and influence cross-functionally and globally.
Bonus Points
• Master's Degree in Sensory Science, substantial experience in the field.
• Knowledge and experience in research design/application of psychophysics, neurobiology as it relates to human sensory experiences, chemosensory, sensory marketing, observations research, consumer behavior, emotion testing and predictive modeling.
• Excellent knowledge of Kellogg Company brands and business models
• Proven networker that provides Kellogg a link to academia and industry leading research.
