Primary Responsibilities:
The Vice President of Outbound Transportation is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all delivery activities throughout the United States. The Vice President is responsible for managing 12+ fleet operations, delivering over 14,000 customer orders weekly, and traveling over 40M miles annually. This leader will have a strong background in delivery operations and the management of a large fleet of Professional Truck Drivers.
Essential Functions:
• Capable of building trust and relationships throughout all levels of the organization.
• Exhibit fanatical focus on achieving customer satisfaction through driving others to heighten and achieve excellent customer service including ensuring timely delivery of customer orders.
• Develop the strategic delivery operations plan and execute that plan with an emphasis on implementing best practices across the transportation operations.
• Drive results for strategic operating plan through continuous improvement and leadership accountability.
• Create a safety culture within the transportation organization.
• Develop recruiting and retention strategies to align with competitive marketplace for Professional Truck Drivers.
• Quickly assess all aspects of outbound transportation operations including route optimization, organization structure, leadership development, efficiency, and standard ways of working. Develop solutions to meet expectations of being a preeminent provider of delivery services in the food industry.
• Recommend and implement automation ideas that improve our competitiveness.
• Implement measures to train and develop all levels of transportation leadership.
• Directs the implementation of major delivery operations initiatives.
• Develops and is accountable to achieve annual budgets.
• Demonstrates highly effective communications, problem solving, and emotional intelligence abilities.
• Frequently engages with Commercial Organization Leadership to ensure outbound transportation solution is aligned with customer experience requirements.
• Help create and maintain the necessary KPI’s to ensure delivery operations are managed to budget while steering process improvement and employee development.
• Leverage information technology systems to produce results.
• Oversees all fleet vendor relationships and is actively engaged is seeking creative solutions to drive down equipment and fuel costs.
• Steward of Organization Culture and carriers the torch of servant leadership.
• Maintain safeguards are in place for confidential company information.
• Exceptional organization and time management skills.
• Leads organization with an extremely high sense of urgency.
• Coordinates and collaborates with warehouse management team on process improvement and planning strategies.
Minimum Requirements:
• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Minimum 5 years of food service transportation experience.
• Extensive knowledge of transportation industry and Federal/State transportation compliance requirements.
• Minimum 7 years of private fleet experience managing multiple operations simultaneously with a proven track record of results in the areas of customer service and efficiency.
• Knowledge of transportation technology, routing systems & mobile solutions.
• Superior proficiency in Microsoft Office suites, including advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint.
Qualifications / Additional Skills / Aptitude:
• Ability to lead and develop people at various levels.
• Ability to work effectively with peers; regional and C-Level Executives, and consistently exhibit servant leadership at all levels.
• Capability of prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously, under tight time constraints.
• Experience presenting to C-Level executives
• Ability to effectively cast vision to all key stakeholders.
• Travel is required for the role of VP Outbound Transportation up to 40% of the time across the country.
