Description
The VP, Strategy & Transformation serves as a strategic consultant to executive-level clients. They leverage design thinking and analytical rigor to identify innovative solutions to a broad range of marketing and business challenges.
Often, this means helping leaders prepare for and embrace change in a digital environment; focusing on how shifts in culture, technology, consumer behavior and internal and external business dynamics impact go-to-market strategy, resource allocation, and overall marketing communications strategy.
She/he will work autonomously or in collaboration with market research, data science, financial consulting, public relations, and other disciplines, and ultimately build on the work of these disciplines to answer a wide range of marketing questions like “What’s the best time to launch a new product” or “Who should we target if we want to be profitable in five years?” or “What do we need to do to change the way we communicate with our customers?”
The output of this work is a functional foundation for bold ideas—ideas that we can qualify, credential, and pilot immediately. That might include a product positioning strategy, a pivot from traditional advertising to more digital-first methods or partnership opportunities, designing the business-logic behind a membership or rewards program, or helping clients develop the right in-house competencies or measurement methods to land on better ideas over time.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Developing integrated go-to-market strategies for new products or services, including sound choices about goals (including forecast estimates), how to allocate resources against various channels and milestones to achieve those goals, and providing clear direction to agencies or client partners to effectively execute a cohesive vision
• Developing consumer-centric product positioning and messaging hierarchies, and helping to frame product or corporate stories into meaningful human benefits
• Developing research plans to address strategic questions, identifying the right mix of primary and secondary sources, using cost and time-effective tools and trusted partners to arrive at fresh ideas
• Creating a global marketing strategies and frameworks, balancing appropriate master brand direction with opportunities for locally relevant programming
• Developing data-driven personas and audience definitions, with a special focus on how to scale and prioritize the right audience with the right business potential
• Critically evaluating a client’s business objectives and offering guidance and insight into the cost, time and resource implications for a given decision, relative to other options
• Presenting thoughtful strategies to all relevant stakeholders, including C-suite or heads of business, where the goal is to provide paths forward and sound council on the relative risks and benefits of a given strategy (rather than “selling” a perfect idea)
Desired Skills and Experience
We’re looking for clear thinkers that can distill lots of information down to actionable ideas. While there’s no one-size-fits-all candidate—you might have a background in strategic planning, brand strategy, or business intelligence, ideally within a digital-minded organization.
Qualifications
• Must have held a strategy or planning position for 8+ years, either “client-side” or with a strategic consulting agency
• Must have experience building trust among executive leadership in large-scale global organizations
• Must be open to traveling nationally and internationally to work directly with client teams, as needed
• MBA or MS in Social Science Research, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
