MWWPR has an exciting opportunity for a Vice President on the Corporate Communications team in the New York, NY office.
The VP will serve as the lead on major pieces of business; architecting executive visibility and thought leadership campaigns for professional services clients with a tech-focus, as well as strategic, integrated media programs. Working alongside Senior Vice Presidents, the VP will be responsible for providing top-tier strategic counsel to account teams and clients, and will also be responsible for setting a standard of excellent and consistent work, delivering superior client service at all times. The VP will provide thought leadership in areas of expertise (participating in speaking platforms, networking events, and bylined articles) to grow MWW visibility and reputation in the marketplace, develop new business leads, and drive select new business efforts. The VP will have significant experience in responding to RFPs and developing new business presentations from ideation to delivery.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the account planning and supervision for million dollar account (focus on tech) with proven, specialized expertise in the category; serve as a top, strategic liaison among clients, account team and agency management; lead client meetings and planning sessions
• Lead the planning and execution of media programs and activities, providing top-tier, strategic client counsel; anticipate client needs and prepare in advance, troubleshooting clients’ problems as they arise; ensure that all accounts are strategically on target with clients’ business objectives
• Oversee the management and tracking of staff allocation and account financials (budget allocation and control, time sheets, client billing, supplier invoicing and purchase orders); work with finance team to ensure client budgets are comprehensive, actual costs are monitored and approved, and billed account receivables are collected in a timely manner
• Assume leadership and ensure that the team continues to drive media results for clients, proactively pitching media daily and secure publicity for clients (local, regional, national); continue to generate client thought leadership opportunities; maintain existing relationships with high level media, journalists and influencers
• Superior ability to apply public relations techniques beyond media relations in response to client briefs; proactively generate winning ideas and opportunities to support client objectives and stories; ensure client program success; regularly measure client satisfaction and take appropriate action
• Direct the account team to work effectively and in the best interest of client; maximize the agency’s network of resources to enhance client services
• Maintain a thorough, demonstrated understanding of clients’ businesses and industries; actively follow and understand emerging issues, trends and news impacting your clients’ business, and proactively advise the team and client regarding how best to leverage or address these developments; entertain clients appropriately to cement relationships and better understand their business
• Proven ability to handle difficult situations with client; leads first class crisis response and issues management
• Top tier project management capability; effectively leads the team in the execution of multiple tasks in an organized manner, including: events, press material development, media briefings, and product launches; provide high quality deliverables on or prior to deadlines; manage the logistics of and run multiple, defined client projects from concept to completion on time and within budget with the support of a junior team
• Lead internal account team strategy sessions and brainstorms and the corresponding development, planning and execution of client media strategies
• Lead integrated campaigns through a demonstrated, working knowledge of social influence, emerging digital platforms, and creative problem solving
• Superior ability to manage the creation of press materials, including: client media materials, byline articles, client correspondence and reports; demonstrated ability to write strategic and sophisticated programs aimed at the C-suite
• Moderate media interviews; lead media training for clients; initiate implementation of media events such as press conferences, briefings and media tours; serve as the senior on-site agency contact for clients’ events
• Lead new business proposal development and work with appropriate agency resources and account teams to identify and secure incremental business opportunities; deliver powerful presentations and consistently win new business; maintain a strong new business ethic within the team; maintain a leadership role in outside organizations, as well, to increase market visibility and create new business opportunities
• Encourage and train account teams on developing incremental business; guide them in how to recognize and develop opportunities for account growth
• Showcase a deep knowledge of and the proven ability to effectively articulate and sell the full services of MWW, procedures and business methods
• Regularly participate in external company promotion through articles, speeches, presentations, professional memberships, etc.
• Manage, provides mentorship, and delegate to junior staff on a day to day basis (Associates, Account Coordinators, Associate Account Executives, Account Executives, Senior Account Executives, Account Supervisors, Account Directors); facilitate teamwork and learning opportunities by delegating and involving junior staff whenever possible; train direct reports on management best practices of junior staffers; ensure that each member of the team understands their role and how they fit together as part of the overall plan; evaluate the team’s effort collectively and individually by promptly reviewing work and providing constructive feedback
• Establish yourself as a role model for junior staff; lead journalist relationship-building initiatives within the team across various media sectors; actively look to maintain and build positive working relationships across all levels
• Collaborate with and report to senior management on progress of team members and accounts
• Manage up to account and practice leads regarding progress on deliverables, media outreach processes, and actively offer solutions to pivot where needed or enhance the project
• Conducts interviews with candidates identified by Talent Acquisition as part of the recruitment process to assess potential new talent for the team; maximize utilization of team members through employee goal setting, appraisals, and development plans; work with Human Resources to resolve personnel matters
• Recommend promotions and provides input for salary raises for high performing team members
• Identifies training and development needs of account staff for effective client servicing
• Determine whether external resources (e.g. freelancers) need to be called upon
Capture time daily and enter it into the system weekly
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience serving in a full time role either in a public relations agency or the communications department of a company in a relevant industry
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, a related field or in the liberal arts
• Deep expertise working with and a passion for professional services, digital and technology brands and/or clients with digital and technology objectives
• Superior oral and written communication skills; advanced proofreading and editing ability
• Superior, demonstrated proficiency in media writing and media relations (story pitching to traditional media and digital influencers, writing releases and bylines, ability to find creative angles and create highly targeted media strategies and pitches)
• Maintain a professional, client-ready demeanor and poise; keeping the highest standard of etiquette in all communications and interactions
• Demonstrable record of contributing to winning new business and leading business development efforts, including the cultivation of strong client relationships
• Demonstrated proficiency and affinity for digital tools and platforms (including social media)
• Experience supervising and providing guidance to junior staffers; strong team building and mentorship aptitude; effectively develops and retains staff; reinforce the importance and value of each team member’s contributions
• Proven track record for providing and selling in highly strategic counsel/recommendations to clients
• Maintain knowledge and a demonstrated understanding of industry publications, nationals, broadcast media
• Relationships with top tech media
• Exposure to large-scale media events and the service of big-brands/highly matrixed organizations
• Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite and Cision (or related PR software)
Ability to travel as necessary contingent on client and new business needs (requirements vary)
