Vice President, Communications Planner
Edelman Chicago is looking for a new breed of Communications Planner. One day you might be researching and creating social platform recommendations for a brand-new B2B startup. The next day you may be creating influencer guidelines for a CPG or healthcare product executed on Snapchat. The following day you may be building a social strategy and content calendars for a tech giant. Or you may be doing all of this on the same day. Regardless, we are looking for someone who can operate in a creative fast-paced environment and is hungry to BUILD A NEW MODEL of communications planning at the agency.
Part researcher, part cultural observer and anthropologist, part storyteller, part digital strategist, part platform expert, and part creative shepherd. You’re the glue that connects brand planning, account and creative, and the ties that binds our creative work to the audience by orchestrating the right media platforms to achieve our clients’ goals.
The Communication Planner works in conjunction and partnership with our brand planners and extended team and is largely responsible for the mechanics of a digital, social, paid, PR or integrated campaign. This can mean many things, but s/he must be able to demonstrate core ability to develop digital content strategies, manage and design processes that govern the development, publication, and distribution of digital content. The Communications Planner should be a passionate advocate for the consumer (or end user) and be able to articulate how human behaviors should impact the work (platform & channel expertise).
You, the communications planner, will strengthen partnerships with clients by taking a creative idea and building a holistic media plan (inclusive of the right mix of: paid, earned, owned, influencer etc) that pays-off on the strategic vision.
Role & Responsibilities
We are looking for someone who can lead the integrated the engagement strategy process for our clients. More specifically, communications planners are responsible for setting the communication goals, identifying the audience opportunities, designing communications to address moments of receptivity along the journey, creating an inspiring engagement strategy, defining channel roles, setting KPI’s, and inventing media as creative.
• Experienced communications strategists
• Media background is required
• Must have experience leveraging insights from consumer journeys – pinpointing key moments of truth and identifying appropriate strategic opportunities
People Responsibilities
• Responsible for 2 direct reports and must ensure that all direct reports master the skills and organizational savvy required for advancement
• Maintain and lead strong working relationships with internal partners (e.g. brand planners, creatives, paid media analysts etc) and external partner agencies
• Must exhibit leadership abilities and have the desire and willingness to develop, motivate, mentor, and coach team members
• Ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
• Ability to effectively communicate across all levels of an organization
Skills And Qualifications
• Knowledge of buying, planning, and reporting
• Ability to handle multiple projects and meetings simultaneously and under tight deadline-driven conditions
• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Must have strong experience with quantitative analysis
• Experience using a variety of media research and reporting resources including: Comscore, MRI, NewsWhip, Quid etc
• Demonstrates strong internal and client-facing leadership skills, with the ability to advocate on behalf of the client and business needs.
• Ability to leverage current trends, innovations, news, and completive landscape to shape business strategies
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferred; a concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration or communications desired
