Edelman Torontois looking for an Account Director to lead client strategy across a diverse set of corporate clients. You are a trusted advisor who brings a proven reputation as a strategic, business-minded steward of the client relationship. You are entrusted and empowered to ensure both the client’s and agency’s business objectives are met. This role is the ideal position for a seasoned integrated communications professional who understands the value of PR, is channel agnostic, and digitally/socially savvy.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, you will bring 8-10 years of agency experience which includes deep expertise in promoting, protecting and evolving corporate reputations. You have an ability to engage the C-suite and have successfully led integrated multi-market account teams. You will be given the opportunity to own and grow client relationships and accounts, engage and mobilize stellar and accomplished cross-specialty teams, and drive the planning and execution of both proactive and reactive reputation building and issues management engagements.
Responsibilities:
• Manage overall client relationship mapping and development across a portfolio of corporate clients
• Clearly identify and articulate the client’s business priorities, challenges/problems, internal pain points and both competitive and industry landscape, and ensure it is understood by anyone who touches the client’s business
• Create an organic growth plan (client strategy action plan) to identify and action key growth opportunities for bringing in new Edelman capabilities that meet client needs
• Create and implement an annual strategy for client engagement which focuses on building and extending internal and external relationships
• Effectively assemble, deploy and lead integrated teams of specialists aligned with evolving needs of clients
• Proactively leverage and share Edelman IP, insights, best practices and methodologies with client
• Oversee client budget management and forecasting; proactively address scope creep, delays in client invoice payment
• Think and program across a variety of platforms, channels and audiences; maintain up-to-date understanding of Edelman’s practice/sector/specialty offerings
• Serve as the client’s chief advocate and quality assurance within Edelman with an in-depth understanding of the client’s business, goals and point of view
• Know how and when to leverage and monetize the full suite of Edelman resources
• Stay knowledgeable about the markets, sectors and channels in which the client operates; use internal and external resources to address knowledge gaps and speeds learning with colleagues
• Anticipate what’s next; help the client see around corners, get ahead of issues and capitalize on new opportunities
Qualifications:
Industry Knowledge and Relationships:
• Extensive experience in Reputation Management and/or Corporate Communications ideally within an agency setting
• 8 - 10 years of public relations/communications or related experience
• Strategic mindset and solid relationships with key opinion leaders and influencers
• Positive industry profile and cultivated network of contacts for business development
Integrated Communications Marketing Experience:
• Demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful communications programs, as well as influencer/advocacy initiatives
• Understanding of and ability to apply insights & analytics not only to client strategy and planning processes, but day to day programming and recommendations
• Solid understanding that earned media, alongside marketing is essential
• Recognizes the nuances and understands how to successfully manage various groups within an integrated firm including account teams, executives, strategists, planning & creative, analytics, digital specialists, production and paid
• Equally values digital marketing and traditional editorial; can blend both successfully
• Understands the distinctions between the CMO and CCO; including unique needs, organizations, approaches, budgets and can manage across both successfully
• Evolves and challenges client briefs – and teams – to deliver on business and communication objectives
Leadership Skills:
• Solid understanding of “big picture” client programs, while maintaining awareness of future client events and activities and how they relate to overall objectives and targets
• Pursue new business opportunities by expanding scope of work with existing clients (e.g., different projects, convergent assignments, etc.) and through direct outreach to prospective clients
• Anticipate what’s next, take a strong well-informed POV and can deliver wise counsel which moves a client’s business forward
• A strategic thinker and can quickly put innovative ideas and business models into context
• Balance needs of the client and the firm, and proactively navigate client issues and challenges
• Demonstrated ability to earn trust and respect of the C- Suite including CMOs and CCOs
• Participate in and represent the company brand at networking events and conferences
• Lead and participate in key pitches (including those from existing clients); ensure appropriate network resources are used and processes followed, and approve all major proposals
