As Vice President, Media Strategy you will craft stories and strategies that play well across channels. You will operate at the cross section of client services, media intelligence and content creation – all priority areas in Edelman’s business strategy.
If you are a sophisticated, strategic thinker who applies a multi-channel media mindset to all client work, have an impressive sense of storytelling, a growing list of high level media contacts, and a demonstrated ability to support and help drive a robust newsroom approach for any project, this role is for you. You will oversee the creation of multi-media strategies that factor in social and paid opportunities, partnering effectively with internal content creators as well as outside agencies.
Some of the responsibilities of the Vice President, Media Strategy include:
• Exhibit solid understanding of client’s business strategy, industry trends, products and services offered, key customers and competitors in the marketplace and how they impact client
• In-depth communication with a variety of national and local media on behalf of clients; maintain key media contacts
• Develop top tier media strategy across a multimillion dollar account spanning numerous business units and products – create a cohesive story on the company’s strategy and success, underpinned by proof points from across the company.
• Provide sound, well-informed, level-appropriate media strategy counsel to clients and internal stakeholders
• Generate ideas for media outreach/strategy; provide media strategy to new business proposals and at clients’ requests
• Effectively handle all aspects of reactive and proactive top tier media strategy from planning stages to pitch development and placement securing with accurate message-pull through
• Oversee research and maintenance of accurate media lists based on your deep understanding of the media ecosystem and individual influential reporters/editors. Advise on optimal media monitoring and reporting and provide thoughtful analysis and feedback on results
• Develop and support in developing creative platforms to increase effectiveness of media campaigns
• Write and oversee writing of press materials (pitch letters, media advisories, etc.), train junior and midlevel staff on excellent writing for media.
• Be a consumer of news – help identify media trends/interests, what “works” with top media
• Lead client meetings and participate new business presentations, when appropriate
• Counsel teams and clients on media relations strategies for an array of accounts; simultaneously juggling multiple projects and issues
• Showcase an extensive network of influencers, and an ability to maintain and develop key media contacts; experience pitching stories to national and local print, online, television and radio media
Some of the qualifications we are seeking in a candidate:
• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in communications, preferably within an agency setting; preferably five or more years in earned media work
• A strong network of media relationships, particularly with business and tech media
• Experience developing and implementing media strategies for (consumer) technology companies with business/national media, based on your understanding of the dynamics of media channels/outlets
• Knowledge of current trends in technology industries
• Demonstrated excellent storytelling skills, a track record of providing sound, level-appropriate media counsel with all levels of internal client contacts
• S/he must possess a broad understanding of all facets of media relations and marketing communications, a strong background of pitching and winning new business, and experience managing budgets
• The candidate should have a demonstrated history of providing high-level, strategic counsel; creative programs; quality outcomes, and; superior customer service to clients.
• Working knowledge of traditional, online and social media platforms
• Must have the ability to assess and understand complex situations and quickly distill the information for both the client and media. In addition, he/she must be team-focused and demonstrate strong leadership qualities
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
