Objectives of the Role
The Media Director (MD) acts as the day-to-day liaison between the client and media community providing leadership, strategic direction and input for media plans. The MD effectively leverages experience, knowledge of the client’s business and media skills to push innovative thinking and set challenging team goals and objectives, balancing client, company, and team needs and priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead all integrated media planning and buying aspects of assigned account(s)
• Generate ideas and articulate “the big picture” above and beyond the detail level
• Monitor client programs and day-to-day business activity
• Direct, develop/oversee planning objectives and strategies that coincide with the client’s marketing direction in conjunction with Digital Investment partner
• Lead and direct all core partners as part of the client solution, including social search, mobile, and other emerging platforms, as well as creative/content development where appropriate
• Oversee the flow of client media-related issues; create solutions and resolve problems
• Ensure all client materials/correspondence are on strategy and of the highest quality, representing the strength of ideas that MediaCom Interaction has to offer
• Continually seek a consumer-centric view in all strategic thinking
• Provide POV on various media in the marketplace
• Gauge media performance to determine the extent to which the original objectives and strategies were met
• Optimize based on client objectives and work with Internal Research/Digital Investment teams to ensure all elements of success are utilized
• Achieve the financial goals of the account by managing costs, revenue, and scope of work in accordance with client contract
• Build/maintain effective working relationships internally and with client, media vendors, and GroupM teams
• Maintain highly visible presence with client senior management
• Sell MediaCom’s services and capabilities in new business pitches to prospective clients
• Successfully manage available staffing resources
• Oversee budget allocation process for media and fees across all media platforms; accurately project costs and anticipate the financial results of plan revisions
• Lead team in completing monthly staffing and revenue projections

• Lead by example while developing, motivating and coaching a team of Supervisors and/or Planners
• Participate in the recruitment and selection of junior staff and ensure all direct reports master the skills and organizational savvy required for advancement
• Must have the ability and desire to help lead, and a willingness to work with and teach others within the group
• Ability to work in a team environment that promotes collaboration
• Adept at communicating effectively across all levels
• Able to establish and maintain effective relationships interdepartmentally as well as those outside the immediate team
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Detailed awareness of client business issues, industry trends, consumer trends, promotional resources, market status, and competition
• Complete knowledge of all aspects of Integrated Media, Search, SEO, SMM, Mobile, etc.
• Solid understanding of interactive research tools such as Ad Relevance, @plan, and Media Metrix
• Understanding of the principles of marketing and advertising, as well as media concepts and terms, creative and budget requirements
• Fluent in mathematical concepts with an ability to translate data into well-articulated ideas
• Able to understand media data sources in terms of what is measured, the method, and information reported
• Must have a proven record of success managing full service accounts
• Must possess strong written, presentation, analytical, quantitative, and verbal skills
