The Operations function…
The Logistics team ensure a robust, efficient, cost effective, flexible and sustainable route to market for all of Company’s newspaper and magazine products. The team builds and adapts our delivery functions that allow our products to go via, wholesale, DTR (Direct to Retail) or DTC (Direct to Consumer) dependant on the requirement and operates a full range of ancillary Logistics services e.g. warehousing, pick and pack, customer service etc. The function also looks to enable sustainable commercial growth through selling its services to third party customers.
Sub Function: Wholesale & Logistics Services…
Develop effective plans across all logistics functions to ensure an accurate, on-time, feasible and cost effective network. Ensure service levels are developed and exceeded through close and detailed monitoring of performance and effective action based resolution to issues identified. To operate an effective, proactive and robust customer interface to providing accurate, timely and consistent returns processing, billing and customer management. Closely working with the team to identify network optimisation opportunities and developing a continuous improvement approach across the dept. To build positive, supportive and productive working relationships within the team but also with other Company teams, business partners and customers. To ensure the team is cross functional and had a strong teamwork ethic throughout.
Summary of the Role
Dedicated focus on Company Wholesaler Supplier performance.
This role will effectively manage the day to day relationship between Company and their respective wholesale partners. Working with internal teams to assist in delivering Company’s objectives by maximising wholesale performance in line with budgeted costs. To continually build and develop partner relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Overarching objective is ensuring Company’s Wholesale partners are meeting set performance targets and KPIs on a continual basis in line with contractual commitments and that Company titles reach the market place, on time, in full. Strong links to be forged with other Company teams, business partners, trade bodies and retail.
Functional Accountabilities -
Core Role
• Coordination of all Wholesale Performance outputs
• Act as a key contact for Company’s wholesale partners on a day to day operational basis
• Responsible for management of Wholesale KPI database and other related performance data
• Owner of Wholesale performance improvement plans
• Wholesale site audits (as required)
• Supports the effective and efficient execution of the logistics plan across all channels and functions
• Ensures effective and efficient channels of communication with accurate and timely shared information
• Supports, contributes to and when required, manages departmental projects
• Service and results driven, drives standards and capability
• Support launch of new routes via the wholesale and DTR network
• Coordinate marketing and promotional activity through the wholesale and DTR network
• Develop and manage Network Distribution Coordinator
• Effective stakeholder management at all levels, internal and external
• Principle contact for all Wholesale operational issues
• Compliance to ISO and Workplace organisation standards
• Strong interface with the Logistics Planning and Night Operations Teams to ensure optimum performance
• Coordination of end to end voucher processing via Wholesale
• Provide timely, accurate and insightful reporting that drives improvement
Management
& Leadership
• Management responsibility for Network Coordinator
• Support and cover for Wholesale Services Manager during absence
• Coaches and develop junior team members
• Effective team communications (e.g. Complete regular 1:1’s)
Functional and Professional Knowledge
• The role requires detailed knowledge of the wholesale and DTR process
• Must also understand supply chain and logistics processes such as; planning, allocation, transport and production.
• Will have excellent operating knowledge of MS Excel and the ability to adapt to new procedural and proprietary systems as required
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to the business needs and direction
• An understanding of Continuous Improvement processes
• Knowledge of a Management Systems would be extremely beneficial
• They will need to be highly communicative, very reliable, flexible and able to work as part of a team in a pressured environment often to very tight deadlines
• They must be exceptionally well organised with a high degree of logic
• Advance skills in Excel and Power point
• Wholesale background would be desirable but not essential
Business Expertise
• Must understand role function and how this fits within the wider logistics team
• Must have knowledge of key internal stakeholders and the relationship of each with the logistics team

& Communication
• Is an effective and concise communicator across multiple departments and management levels
• Understands the customers’ needs and can tailor solutions to meet these
• Develops and builds the day to day operational relationship with business partners, customers and the team
• Develops supplier relationships in order to improve service, efficiency and capability
• Collaborative, able to work across functions, teams, companies and industries with a mutual win philosophy
