VP, Merchandising Company

This permanent position of Vice-President, Merchandising Company reports directly to the President and CEO and is based at our Montreal Head Office at 5592 Ferrier Street, Mount Royal, H4P 1M2.
Since the first store opening in Montreal in 1975, the Company brand has grown into an international chain with close to 250 stores worldwide. Company offers teens a wide selection of denim and fashion collections in a cool, casual/leisure and unique shopping environment. These collections solidify Company’s position as the number one Canadian national brand among teenage girls. From international expansion to new online channels, this is the most exciting era in the Company brand’s history.
The key areas of responsibility of the Vice-President, Merchandising Company, without restriction, entail:
Merchandising Leadership
• Ensure that the Merchandising team develops and implements impactful profitable merchandising plans that provide the Company Brand with an outstanding product offering that drives growth and strong customer loyalty across various local markets;
• Ensure merchandising processes and standards are flawlessly implemented to drive great product selection, customer satisfaction and maximize sales in the context of an evolving omni-channel experience;
• In collaboration with key business partners, develop and implement business plans, processes, tools and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that will drive optimal ROI on every front (re: Gross margin dollars, inventory management, Top 20 categories, targeted assortment plans);
• Provide strategic and tactical direction/recommendations to the Executive Team/key stakeholders on potential new line offerings/extensions or other opportunities for consideration to sustain business growth plans.
Design Leadership
• Provide brand vision, inspiring leadership and direction to the Design Leadership teams to ensure development of outstanding commercially sound product aligned to Company’s brand filters and customer needs;
• In collaboration with key stakeholders, ensure Design teams adopt a proactive approach to product development, sourcing and respect internal processes to drive great product offering and meet our Company business objectives;
• Nurture cross-functional alignment between Design and Merchandising teams and other key stakeholders to deliver on best product offering to targeted customer within an omni-channel environment;
• Ensure Design teams proactively assess global fashion trends, understand key competitors’ offerings, identify opportunities, “design to fabric” and drive commercially sound product offerings to meet various country/local customer needs.
Other Responsibilities
• In collaboration with Marketing and Creative Services, ensure brand cohesiveness to continue building strong brand equity across all Company consumer touch points;
• Keep abreast of best practices in the areas of product development, merchandising, customer experiences and marketing strategies.
Based on the evolution of the Company and other business needs, your key areas of responsibility may change from time to time.
COMPENSATION:
Salary range: $350,000 to $475,000 based on experience and related qualifications;
Bonus as per company policy at 50%;
Comprehensive and complete benefits program, including medical and dental coverage, life insurance and an employer portion contribution to RRSP’s at 8% according to Company policy;
This salary is based on a 35 hours a week, day shifts.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business/Economics or related field;
• Bilingual: English a must & French an asset.
• Minimum of 20 years of experience in Fashion Product Merchandising in a large scale leadership capacity with gross margin dollar P&L responsibility and experience managing multi-disciplinary driven teams in a global market context;
• Strong understanding of the Product Development Cycle to include various sourcing strategies and production capabilities;
• Experience in roles with apparel manufacturer(s) is a key asset considering the need to “Design to Fabric” and short production lifecycle;
• Experience in a large scale vertically integrated global organization servicing multiple countries including the US is critical in context of Company’s market footprint and future expansion plans;
• Relevant work experience with a specialty global teen retailer with strong presence in the US is a strong asset;
• Proven track record of driving innovative and profitable merchandising strategies that generate bottom line results while also meeting a customer-centric vision;
• Strong communication skills at building relationships, both internal and external;
• Self-starter, entrepreneurial and extremely driven to achieve results in a efficient manner;
• Motivated by milestones and able to thrive in a dynamic and changing environment;
• Ability to work in collaborative fashion with various stakeholders;
• Reliable, with relevant experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
