Join one of the most progressive publishers in the field! Nature Research Group (NRG) is seeking an enterprising leader to manage our global marketing and sales operation teams. The role is responsible for developing B2B and B2C customer relationships and driving revenue growth in partnership with Sales and Publishing teams.
Reporting to the NRG Managing Director, the VP is a member of NRG senior leadership and also represents NRG in our Company Nature Marketing network.
Our ideal candidate will deftly handle business as usual challenges while providing longer term strategy to support the evolution and and growth plans of the business. They will guide all of our marketing initiatives across a portfolio of products and services that are at the top of their class while building branding, marketing technology, advertising operations and client service talent.
The VP has expertise in all marketing and customer development channels and is very knowledgeable about technology that advances marketing and business practice. The position requires excellent people management skills including demonstrated ability to easily communicate with, influence and inspire leadership across the business.
You will enjoy managing a global team responsible for creating and supporting B2B and B2C customer development and commercial strategy across the Nature Research Group of products and services at Company Nature.

Responsibilities
• Build a marketing strategy that articulates NRG messaging and branding consistently.
• Manage a broad organization of marketing, technology and sales support teams, ensuring strong coordination among those teams and proactive collaboration with key stakeholders across Company Nature.
• Develop (4) NRG integrated Marketing teams to be key value contributors in the evolution/success of all customer, revenue and products/projects management. Build a constructive, professional culture on cooperation and learning values.
• Create and develop a scalable organization that provides operational and administrative support to multiple international sales teams including lead generation, market intelligence, sponsorship project management, business systems and work flow management
• Drive advertising /sponsorship revenues (B2B) by managing/testing innovative advertising/marketing technologies and practice for NRG and Company Nature.
• Drive higher overall advertising, sponsorship, custom publishing (B2B) and optional author service revenues (B2B/B2C.) Develop integrated brand strategies and communication capabilities that further advance the company’s leadership position.
• Oversee B2C consumer marketing efforts in content sales for Scientific American, Nature, Nature branded journals and other products/services; partner with e Commerce teams to manage customer development and revenue growth
• Build end user customer development strategies (B2C)with publishing teams on new Journal and product launches/plans.
• Maintain strong Marketing role(B2C and B2B) in the Nature Careers product team driving revenue; developing customers, content and services. Participate in the project for SN science career platform growth
• Propose and manage cost effective marketing budgets including staff, promotion and travel expenditures. Work with finance to develop appropriate tracking and reporting processes
• Champion and lead best practice marketing standards across the department; instil ethos of iteration, performance measurement and continual improvement in team to support growing NRG Commercial group.
• Work with HR to ensure appropriate staff development programs for training, learning and team succession planning
• Work closely with Company Nature corporate communications and other marketing managers across the company to ensure consistent and unified high-level marketing strategy
• Actively participate in all SN cross company initiatives to develop and implement customer data and product development strategies, practice and/or technologies including CRM tools.
• Represent NRG in Company Nature Global Marketing Steering Council
Experience, skills and qualifications
Essential
• Demonstrable experience building, managing and developing a global multi-function team
• Specific experience in multichannel , B2B and B2C marketing and associated tactics and technologies
• Proven track record and experience of marketing academic publishing for books and journals across STM subjects
• Management of change and developing team and business restructures
• Setting forecasts and budgets at senior management level and proven cost control
• Demonstrated experience managing the diverse teams required to enable successful delivery across multiple sets of contributors, ie. direct reports + centralized services + 3rd party vendors.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver new advertising technologies and products which translate to new sources of revenue.
• Experience in developing registration strategies
• Exceptional leadership, communication and influencing skills
• Ability to think strategically, combing a long term vision with the demands of the short and medium term
• Expertise in all marketing and customer development channels including analytics, performance measurement and optimisation
• Expertise and interest in advanced marketing/ advertising technology, e.g., ad server platforms, behavioural advertising technology, influencer channels, web analytics, CRM, UX, etc.
• Strong Product/ Project management skills would be essential.
• Fundamental understanding of eCommerce is critical
• Advanced people management skills, relationship building, teamwork and leadership; the ability to manage teams and relationships at a distance
• Excellent business management skills, an acute commercial instinct and results focus.
• Personal effectiveness in handling complexity, change and challenges in the external and corporate environment
• Technical knowledge of publishing – books and journals, marketing and digital media
• Creative flair, with an imaginative and innovative approach to business issues.
• Degree educated
