This Video Strategist will be a leader in the newsroom, working with both reporters and a team of four videographers/photographers, to produce compelling journalism for The Commercial Appeal, an award-winning news organization that covers Memphis and Shelby County. Now is your chance to join a news team with some of the most robust audience growth for video in the entire country.
Responsibilities:
• Provide advanced editing, packaging and representation across all platforms, with an emphasis on mobile and social video.
• Work with digital leadership, editors, reporters and visual journalists to best display video on all platforms using a high level of judgment and creativity.
• Collaborate with the digital team to maximize social media presence.
• Works with editors, reporters and others to brainstorm and plan video ideas that will augment our overall coverage and help grow our digital audience.
• Uses tools like Brightcove, Omniture, Chartbeat and others to determine how many people are interacting with our video content and for how long – and then developing strategies to grow even more.
• Develops best practices for creating video content – from short text-only social videos to Facebook Live streams to full-length mini-docs.
• Serves as an evangelist for video content – teaching, coaching and encouraging everyone in the newsroom to be a part of our video growth.
• Leads video shoots both in the field and in the studio, when necessary.
• Manages workflow to meet deadlines.
• Manages the visuals team to produce compelling journalism.
• Provides great customer service, helping readers find answers and solutions.
Skill set, experience required: At least a few years of management experience with a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment where an editor could be taking video one day and editing a series of videos for a long-form project the next.
A sports-obsessed region with a strong cultural identity, growing foodie scene and excellent musical roots, Memphis is a great news town. And we need a video strategist who has a passion for telling stories about the region and its people, whether through videos or photos. The strategist will also be responsible for all visuals and be a partner in helping generate content that drives digital engagement.
The CA is among the leaders in Company in video growth over the last year, but we think there’s upside for an audience to grow much further. The strategist will report to the consumer experience director and work on projects such as MLK50, which in 2018 will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the April 4, 1968, slaying of the Rev. Martin Luther King in Memphis.
