We have an opening for an experienced, innovative, strategic User Experience Designer in our Irvine, CA. office. Does this sound like you?
Reporting to the Director of User Experience, the User Experience Designer will be responsible for the definition, design, user flow, user interface, and overall user experience of all web-based products used in the K-12, HE, Career, and Consumer markets. Interacts directly with customers and stakeholders to gather core strategy and needs, and then applies knowledge of user-centered design methods, industry best practices, and other forms of user data to drive useful and usable interface design solutions. Must strike a balance between creative and analytical thinking, participate in concept development, conduct and analyze user research and testing, and provide user interface designs that meet business goals.
Critical Functions:
• Works with product development stakeholders to define new products and features, as well as to improve existing ones; ensures products/features have the proper scope and usability to achieve business goals.
• Efficiently develops a large volume of user-friendly, customer-centered designs while still delivering a high quality experience for the end-user.
• Conducts customer research, understands/defines needs and outlines actionable steps, implements design, and tests for usability throughout the process.
• Leads brainstorming sessions and prepares all business/functional/user requirements for development.
• Documents use cases, user flows, experience maps, prototypes, and storyboards to effectively communicate/implement/test concepts.
• Develops low and high fidelity wireframes, clickable prototypes, site maps, and design documentation that incorporate all technical, editorial, and usability specifications of the project.
• Develops feedback plans and conducts user testing, including in-person, remote, moderated, and un-moderated formats.
• Applies graphic/visual design to interfaces, including creating icons, updating layouts, and enhancing displays; insures consistent application across products and features in line with ALEKS brand in each market.
A successful candidate will have:
• Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Information Architecture, Digital Design, or related field preferred. Or, Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field acceptable in conjunction with a user experience/customer-centered design certificate, or equivalent work experience.
• Two plus years of experience in user interface design for complex web-based applications.
• Expert in web and software usability principles and is up-to-date on current trends and advances in interface and functional design.
• Experience in creating low and high fidelity sketches, wireframes, clickable prototypes, site maps, and design documentation.
• Proficiency with UX wireframe and prototyping software (e.g. Axure, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator); familiar with Snagit, Visio, XML, HTML, and CSS.
• Adept at writing user interface text and messages in clear and concise language, and tailoring writing to different audiences.
• Strong sense of modern, clean design and aesthetics that can be applied to create pixel perfect layouts.
• Impeccable organization and time/project management skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks. Must be able to maintain own work flow, produce results, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of customers and staff.
• Ability to conduct customer research, collect external/internal feedback, and synthesize results.
• Must be able to understand a target audience's needs and other motivating factors, and translate them into concepts for compelling interactions and experiences.
