Job Description

• Due to advantages in costs and processibility, thermoplastics are used to replace conventional materials in lightweight solutions for e-mobility and other engineering applications. To capture their complex mechanical behavior in FE simulations, the calibration of material models is required. The aim of this work is to describe the deformation behavior of plastics under multiaxial loading conditions based on existing experiments.
• As part of our team, you conduct a literature review on different material models for plastics under multiaxial loading conditions in this thesis.
• You apply and calibrate material models from commercial FE codes. For this, existing experimental data including deformation field measurements by grey scale correlation are being used.
• In collaboration with a team of scientists and engineers, you derive relevant requirements and concisely prepare the concepts and results.
• Furthermore, you review the quality of your concepts by evaluating the results achieved and the methods used and derive appropriate recommendations for action.

Qualifications

• Education:studies in the field of Computational Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or comparable
• Experience and Knowledge: good knowledge of continuum mechanics and the Finite Element Method, as well as practical experience in programming like Python. Experience in a commercial finite element software like Abaqus or Ansys is beneficial
• Personality and Working Practice: able to work in a team and open-minded as well as dedicated, goal-oriented and independent
• Languages:fluent in English or German. The thesis can be written in English or German
