The Development Services Department (DSD) assists homeowners, business owners, and contractors when they build, demolish, remodel or perform any type of construction to ensure compliance with applicable city and building codes.
DSD is seeking a Dispatcher II reporting to the safety department. The person in this position will operate/monitor a multi-channel two-way radio and dispatch consolette. They will be the shift dispatch communications to field operations teams and will monitor their GPS locations while in transit. They will enter and update field communications into the communications tracking database AMANDA 7, and they will confer with internal customers or other personnel to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.

This position will have an alternating schedule for even (2,4,6,8,10) and odd (1,3,5,7,9,11) months:
Even months:
- Monday – Off
- Tuesday – 9:00am – 8pm
- Wednesday – 9:00am – 8pm
- Thursday – 9:00am – 8pm
- Friday – 9:00am – 8pm
- Saturday – Off
Odd months:
- Monday – 8:00am-8:00pm
- Tuesday – Off
- Wednesday – Off
- Thursday – 12:00pm – 11:00pm
- Friday – 12:00pm – 11:00pm
- Saturday 12:00pm-11:00pm
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Ability to operate/monitor multi-channel two-way radio and dispatch consolette.
- Experience in shift dispatch communications to field operations teams monitoring their GPS locations while in transit.
- Ability to initiate, enter and update field communications into our communications tracking database AMANDA 7.
- Ability to confer with internal customers or other personnel to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.
- Ability to enter and dispatch work order service requests for fleet vehicles, relay technical assistance, work orders, messages, and information to field operations, division managers, supervisors and field inspectors using telephones and two-way radios.
- Ability to prepare reports using our GPS database GeoTab/Telematics for traffic related incidents.
- Knowledge of Ten Codes.
- Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Schedules and dispatches workers; work crews; equipment; or service vehicles to appropriate locations according to trouble calls received from field service personnel.
2. Schedules and loans out pool vehicles to authorized employees.
3. Initiate, enter and update “Calls For Service” into Computer Aided Dispatch/Computer System Emergency Notification System during emergency and non-emergency situations.
4. Operate and monitor fire alarm system for department and external buildings. Monitor security/emergency equipment/systems and closed circuit television monitors; Report breaches of security to appropriate personnel.
5. Operate/monitor multi-channel radio, audio/video, multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional alpha paging systems.
6. Records and maintains files and records of customer requests; work of services performed; charges; expenses; inventory; and other dispatch information on appropriate forms or logs.
7. Confers with customers or other personnel to address questions; problems; and requests for service or equipment.
8. Enter and dispatch work order service requests. Relays technical assistance; work orders; messages; and information to or from work crews, supervisors and field inspectors using telephones and two-way radios.
9. Prepares daily work log information for reports.
10. Determines types or amount of supplies needed and places orders, accordingly.
11. Coordinates emergency response including evacuation process.
