Technical Designer, Collection

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop tech packs that are design driven while being production ready. This includes the following:
◦ Accurate sketches for the front, back, side (as needed). Although Design / PD creates sketches, TD has the ultimate accountability for accuracy. Adobe Illustrator is a must skill to have
◦ Detail sketches as needed for design execution- this enables accurate execution of samples, but they should be production driven as well
◦ Measurement pages to enable sample making and production ready grade
◦ Points of measure that are specific to the style- again, production ready. NOTE: Although certain Points of Measure will be needed for the purpose of sample making, the tech pack handed off to the manufacturing offices / suppliers must be production ready
◦ Realistic production tolerances must be included. This involves the collaboration with back end QA to ensure accuracy of Tech Pack
◦ Production ready “how to measure” application
• Partner with the off-shore Business Partners (either manufacturing offices or suppliers / factories) for the purpose of creating samples correct for design intent to ultimately approve for production
• Receive fit samples and prepare / process for fittings
• Host fittings with Design for the purpose of presenting execution and getting it approved for production
• Suggest, influence, persuade as needed in fitting proper corrections for fit and design detail geared towards production ready garments / tech packs
• Properly memorialize in writing the fit notes from meetings and publish accordingly in the PLM system and/or e-mail for the purpose of Business Partner alignment
• Properly track and publish technical design work load according to department requirements
• Partner with Business Partners in Production / Sourcing to ensure alignment on current status of the line- style specific
• Partner with local factories and overseas office PD / TD counterparts to resolve any current or potential issues regarding delivery as it pertains to fit and/or construction
• Partner with Design team throughout line development to ensure integrity of fit and garment construction is consistent with the heritage of Company product
• Ultimately accountable for all aspect of the technical design package in PLM to ensure integrity of the information is correct and production driven. This involves the partnership with PD Department. NOTE: even as it pertains to BOM / packing / packaging / etc… it is the ultimate accountability of Technical Design to have an accurate tech design pack for production to enable QA files.
• Ensure consistency between cutter’s must and Technical Package
• Attend / Host / Participate in cross functional meetings to ensure a clean hand off of materials to enable work to be done seasonally
• Drive time and action calendars and escalate to management accordingly
• Maintain professional & clear daily communication with cross functional partners and overseas offices regarding material changes, construction details, fit and pattern issues. Ensure that all necessary parties are kept in the loop in a timely manner
• Attend global conference calls as needed and host accordingly. NOTE: The need might be that it is outside of normal business hours as Company is a global company. This is business need and a requirement of this position
• Drive global relationships in a professional manner that speaks to partnership and collaboration. NOTE: This requires written communication in a professional manner the drives partnership and team work.
Qualifications:
• Proficiency in PLM, WEB PDM, Excel, Illustrator, Outlook
• Ability to fit and analyze appropriate fit corrections
• Knowledge of patternmaking and grading
• Knowledge of garment construction
• Knowledge of production/manufacturing processes and capabilities
• Ability to multi task and problem solve
• Strong written & verbal communication skills
• 10+ years’ experience in the apparel industry.
