As a member of Blackboard’s technical operations team within the Product Development group, the Systems Administrator is responsible for delivering eLearning services to over a thousand clients comprising almost 4 million users worldwide. A passion for technology and the desire to “do it once, do it right” underpin the culture of the team. This person will be required to learn the product platforms and underlying system components. Systems administrator activities in the primarily include configuration, root cause analysis, coding, documenting and testing of the platform. Activities in this entry-level position will primarily include root cause analysis and validations of issue resolution.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Work in teams with our Systems Administrators, DevOps Engineers, Software Engineers, Quality Assurance Analysts and Support personnel.
• Provide support to issues escalated from the Client Engagement Support team and interface with development teams to hand-off application issues.
• Assist with monitoring of production systems and measuring application health.
• Provide fault reproduction, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of product issues/bugs to Product Development
• Create and update documentation related to the maintenance of application platforms.
• Gain exposure and experience in various aspects of the software development life cycle and to Blackboard’s processes and methodologies for building software products
• Use the latest technologies, tools, and techniques (Amazon Web Services, Chef, Ruby, NewRelic and more…)
• Apply knowledge and skills gained in school to building real-world products.
• Shape the future of eLearning by helping develop the next generation of products
REQUIREMENTS
• Working towards a 4 year Computer Science degree or equivalent Programming degree.
• 0– 3 years’ experience with Linux operating systems, with particular emphasis on Red Hat Linux, Debian, or their variants
• Must possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
• Must be passionate about providing an excellent end-user experience
• Knowledge, exposure, and/or experience through academic or professional work in the following is highly desirable:
◦ Operating Systems
◦ Software Engineering Principles
◦ Database Management
