Strategy & Innovation Intern – Company Home Entertainment, MBA Summer 2017 Internship
Company Home Entertainment encompasses all of Company' non-theatrical transactional distribution channels, including both physical (e. g., Wal-Mart, Redbox) and digital (e.g., iTunes, DirecTV). The Strategy & Innovation team supports the President of SPHE and head of Consumer Strategy to help drive the strategy & innovation activities of the division.
The team’s core mission is to:
• Explore – To actively seek opportunities, innovations, and insights that will drive profit growth and distinguish SPHE as an industry leader
• Incubate – To embolden the organization to take risks on potential new initiatives by evaluating and championing the most promising ideas
• Advise – To support SPHE in achieving key strategic and operational objectives by producing concrete, action-oriented solutions based on thorough analysis and keen insight, thereby delivering greater value to the studio and our partners

Responsibilities/Projects/Learnings
Past summer projects have included:
• Competitive or strategic analyses around a specific problem (e. g. identify technology trends and potential opportunities for SPHE , e.g., developing a point of view on VR)
• Potential SPHE new business development initiative or partnership opportunity
• Developing recommendations for SPHE to take action on the findings and presenting/pitching the recommendations to SPHE’s senior executives
Illustrative Projects & Initiatives
The Strategy & Innovation group supports the President of SPHE and head of Consumer Strategy on the division’s strategic priorities; project work can include any of the following:
• Incubating new technologies and processes either internally or from potential startups and highlight methods to quickly implement or test concepts in the market
• Identify, evaluate, and champion opportunities to delight consumers or alleviate pain points by innovating the Home Entertainment product or experience by using new technologies, apps, or by enhancing the product
• Engage with retail customers to sell-in high potential consumer-based opportunities, as well as more generally deliver thought leadership on consumer value for the home entertainment category
• Facilitate the incubation of the most promising opportunities by collaborating with and leading cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Finance, etc.) to design, execute, and communicate tests, and determine approach to scale (if applicable)
• Engage with external partners (consultants, universities, research agencies) on a regular basis to secure fresh perspectives and insights on best practices to enhance and/or support the consumer strategy
• Support major commercial deals through modeling deal economics and developing strategic recommendations
Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree and enrollment in an accredited MBA program for the entire duration of the internship is required
• Superior strategic analysis competencies – performs sophisticated hypothesis-driven analysis with only broad oversight
• Ability to understand implications of analysis and probe deeper when confronted with inconsistent or interesting findings
• Intellectual curiosity in exploring and testing new business ideas
• Ability to draw well-integrated conclusions and tell a cohesive story from insights and analyses
• Understanding of financial principles/techniques of financial analysis, including discounted cash flows and other valuation techniques
• Strong initiative and the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Enthusiasm and passion for following trends in media and entertainment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to partner and collaborate effectively with cross-divisional functions and external partners
• 2 or more years of top-tier general management consulting, investment banking experience, and/or other internal industry-consulting roles or start-up business development experience is preferred
Program Information:
“SPE’s Summer 2017 MBA Internship Program is a 10 week full time program with two sessions starts, June 12-August 18 or June 26-September 1, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited MBA program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for the entire session.
