In the Linux Engineering team at Walt Disney Animation Studios, we build tools and manage the Linux infrastructure that artists use daily to assist with creating celebrated feature animation films. The team designs, implements, and manages the Linux infrastructure for artist desktop and render farm systems. We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer with strong expertise in Linux to innovate and support the next generation of tools and services needed for our current and future films.
This position is located at our studio in Burbank, CA.
Responsibilities
The Sr. Systems Engineer will provide Technical Leadership of the Linux Engineering team and will work with the Production and Technology teams to provide Walt Disney Animation Studios with highly available and scalable Linux infrastructure services.
This includes system analysis, design, troubleshooting, and integration of new products and developing tools and strategies to improve existing systems.
Qualified candidates will have demonstrated expertise in design and management of tools and services dedicated to Linux desktop and render farm operations.
Critical to success in this role is an aptitude for working with a technical team to develop requirements and strategies, and to support the Linux infrastructure.
Duties:
• Design, build, implement and maintain systems applications and Linux infrastructure
• Constantly monitor and adjust strategy to take advantage of advancements in the industry in order to develop new specifications and strategies to support a rapidly changing environment
• Work with technical managers, principal engineers and production leads to oversee teams that implement solutions
• Sustain an overview of long-term requirements and maintain the long-term vision for Linux infrastructure systems and services
• Support and help to train personnel in new technological advancements
• Maintain/ensure system redundancy, operability and reliability
• Act as Tier III support for all issues
• Provide detailed technical specifications, time lines with deliverables
• Provide regular status reports to Manager & Director of Systems
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, related field or equivalent work experience desired
• Minimum 7+ years systems engineering experience in complex heterogeneous environments
• Demonstrated experience with Linux OS and kernel
• Expertise in Linux distribution, build, and configuration systems
• Well-developed scripting skills in Perl and/or Python
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet or Chef a plus
