Summary:
NB is looking for a SR designer for a newly created Global Business Unit. This new GBU is charged with "echoing and amplifying" the best of the NB brand. This category will span both the Lifestyle and Performance. It will be the team that establishes a connection with THE FUTURE of the brand and will reach a broad consumer base through delivering the ‘brand experience’ to metropolitan and style seeker-inspired consumers at Tier 4 (primarily Shoe chains and Moderate Department Stores) retail channels. It is an immense opportunity and will be the largest growth area globally for the footwear division.
We are looking for a SR designer that has a combination of performance and lifestyle experience. This designer must have a passion for driving innovation and creative problem solving as well as a keen eye for future trends relating to industry, product, materials and color.
Responsibilities
As a Sr Designer you will be tasked to work cross-brand to execute new and original statement level products that drive a category aesthetic that align with the overall brand creative direction. You will have integral role in helping to setting category design vision. You will be responsible for applying your strong design, color, material, innovative thinking, and technical experience to athletic footwear. As well as creating products, technologies and develop concepts that continue to advance Company product performance and aesthetics. In this role, you will be required to put concept and trend boards, consumer and brand analysis together. You will utilize your knowledge of category-specific consumer trends and culture to improve product performance and appearance.
In addition to being a strong design influencer this person more importantly will need to be a strong collaborator. You will work closely with the TRIAD (design, development, sourcing, and product management). As an integral member of the team, you will research project needs, generate multiple concept solutions and communicate your ideas through sketches, renderings, boards and presentations. Ability to carry a large workload, meet key deadlines and leads by example and is an anchor designer for the category. In an effort to stay on top of industry trends you will be required to learn to work in 3D, this will be taught on site by our internal Modo 3D team, no prior experience is necessary. This person may have management responsibilities (Designer 2 and lower).
Travel requirements, you will actively participate in creative vision during off-sites and other design events, Asia development trips to represent category and complete multiple projects.
Qualifications
• Creative
• Collaborative
• Minimum 8 years footwear design experience.
• Solid understanding of footwear design, construction, materials, sourcing and commercialization.
• Lifestyle and performance experience a plus
• BA or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, and/or Fashion design or related area. Innovation, Engineering Degree is a plus.
• Must have proficiency in design programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop and Keynote. Rhino/3D a plus
• 2D-3D drawing by hand or computer and have ability to visualize
• Strong skills in core design competencies: color, materials, sketching, concept ideation, presenting, problem-solving
• Passion for market trends
• Strong communication skills are essential.
• Some domestic and international travel.
