Purpose
Lead and drive the communications team in developing an integrated, through-the-line, marketing communications package to support adidas global basketball business objectives. This is the lead communications role on a first-level Strategic Business Plan (SBP) priority category.
Key Accountabilities
1. Strategic:
• Responsible for knowing the business issues, plans, products and consumer situation for the category.
• Develop marketing plans that drive the category and lead to effective communication activities.
• Develop short and long term communications strategy based specific category business and in alignment with brand objectives
• Lead the integrated Communications team in developing an effective channel-planning strategy based on the concept strengths, marketing objectives and consumer realities.
2. Management:
• Oversee day-to-day management of marketing communications leads.
• Direct all communication disciplines; PR, digital, retail and media.
• Direct all internal marketing groups to functional leads; business unit, sports marketing, adidas innovations (ait), etc.
• Lead client role to global agency on the category.
3. Concept Development:
• Lead the global agency briefing process and manage development of all concepts and creative elements through direct report
• Manage and guide agency towards creative concept that meets objectives and works across disciplines, and global markets.
• Lead the integrated Communication team in the development of communication tools from conception to implementation ensuring all projects are on brief and meet the highest creative standards.
4. Budget Management:
• Direct the management and approval of entire category communications budget and all decisions according to brand and business objectives.
5. Global Implementation
• Responsible for ensuring all communication activities are executed in markets in ways that meet global expectations and strategies.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Ability to sell and influence at all levels of a large company/organization, especially at the Sr. Management level
• High level of strategic and conceptual thinking required
• Advanced level of project and budget management
• Advanced level in understanding of integrated marketing mix across multi-geographic markets
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Skill in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Strong presentation skills
• Broad understanding of the sports industry, and a passion for sport
• International work experience and ability to speak multiple languages is helpful
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 35% of the time
Qualifications
1. 4 yr degree in Business, Marketing, or related field required. Advanced degree preferred
2. Minimum ten years of marketing experience, preferably with a sporting or consumer goods company or equivalent account management experience at an advertising agency.
3. Demonstrated ability and proven success in managing global agency partnerships
4. Demonstrated ability and proven success in managing of integrated communications team at the global level
5. Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
