Sports Nutrition, Program Director
The University of Notre Dame (Company website) is accepting applications for a Sports Nutrition, Program Director.

As an executive member of the Notre Dame Student-Athlete Services team, the Program Director of Sports Nutrition will design, direct and facilitate programming relating to the role of nutrition for all 26 sports to assist in enhancing athletic performance and overall well-being. This position will actively engage and collaborate with Strength & Conditioning coaches, Sports Medicine personnel, Student Welfare and Development staff, the Director of Performance Sciences and Food Services to help maximize the potential of each student-athlete through the development, direction and implementation of sports nutrition initiatives and staff. The Program Director will also lead a team of two full-time positions in Sports Nutrition.
Lead Sports Nutrition department in assessing, counseling, and educating student-athletes individually to meet specific performance goals and to maximize performance through specific nutrition interventions such as meal/snack timing, body composition changes, weight gain and/or loss, injury rehabilitation and prevention, health issues, special dietary circumstances, health concerns, hydration, supplementation, nutrient composition and meeting of dietary needs. Athletes may be referred by self-referral, sport coaches, sports medicine staff/physicians, and strength and conditioning staff.
Provide team nutrition education through team presentations, small groups, emails, web site development, educational handouts, newsletters, signage and other creative means.
Develops and manages fueling stations for all student-athletes to receive sport performance drinks (i.e. Gatorade), nutrition bars, vitamins and other supplementation. Coordinates and manages the ordering, disbursement, and budget for all nutrition supplementation. Implements and oversees all programs related to nutritional enhancement for athletes, such as recovery fuel for post-practices and workouts.
Collaborates with the campus Food & Catering Services in planning and coordinating meals for sport teams. Oversees implementation of all aspects of training tables for athletes. Consults with coaching staffs/team managers/athletic training staff regarding meal and menu planning for preseason, pregame, away travel, training table and other special meals. Works with outside vendors and restaurants for various special meals.
In concert with the Multi-Disciplinary Eating Disorder Team (MEDT), assess, counsel, educate, and develop individualized plans for students with subclinical or clinical eating disorders. Educate student-athletes, sport coaches, support staff, and administrators on warning signs and protocol for dealing with eating disorders/disordered eating.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or related field from an accredited college or university is required.
• Proficient use in Microsoft Office, internet and nutrition based computer programs
• Experience with body composition measurement tools, policy development and implementation
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task effectively, good organization skills
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, especially regarding meals and nutritional supplementation
• Experience in college athletics programs
• Policy development and implementation
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Nutrition or related field strongly preferred
