Hearst Digital Media is seeking a social-savvy, idea-filled Web Editor to conceptualize, create, and manage daily content for Company website.
The Senior Web Editor should be web-smart generalist who is comfortable creating and editing content across a few key areas of interest, including parenting, family and relationships, health and wellness, celebrity, home décor, food and cooking, beauty and fashion, and more general interest topics for a 30-something audience.
Reporting to the Site Director, the Web Editor will serve as a point person and keen editorial eye for the site, top editing daily pieces, assigning and editing freelance content, overseeing photo and design requests, and ultimately delivering content that’s on deadline, flawlessly executed, and highly engaging.
Job Responsibilities:
• Pitch and write stories and/or assign freelance content daily, as well as execute on SEO-driven priorities and writing assignments
• Edit and guide the visual packaging of daily content from the site’s editors and freelance contributors to ensure quality and accuracy, voice, engaging and click-y headlines, timeliness, and search optimization
• Support the Site Director in planning and maintaining the site’s daily editorial calendars, fielding newsy and evergreen pitches, and assigning stories and deadlines to in-house editors or writers
• Support the Site Director and Social Media Editor to identify timely trending content to republish from sister sites, making light top edits and repackaging as necessary for each brand
• Track daily site performance on Omniture, Chartbeat, Buzzing, Crowdtangle and other analytics tools to help inform future content strategies
Key Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years experience working in a fast-paced digital environment, with a focus on editing, writing heds/deks, and daily content programming across various platforms, including newsletters
• Ability to work quickly on tight deadlines and communicate quickly and clearly
• A passion for digital news and online trends
• Background in writing, editing, and producing women's service and lifestyle content; previous experience covering parenting, beauty, health, or other key lifestyle topics is ideal
• Keen attention to analytics and data-driven editorial choices; previous experience with Adobe Analytics, Chartbeat, Crowdtangle and other digital engagement tools a plus
• An eye for visual journalism and packaging for the web; previous photo editing and research experience a plus
• Knowledge of best practices for SEO and digital content production
