Senior UX Designer
Macmillan are creating a new generation of world class learning products, which integrate the best in new digital technology with the best pedagogical design. This offering will be a whole ‘suite’ of products and services for the Adult, Secondary and the Primary market segment.
The Senior UX Designerwill work closely with the Product, Editorial and Technology teams on a range of projects, defining UX requirements, producing UX documentation, building prototypes, conducting user research and testing and ensuring the development of high-quality user experiences.
Responsibilities:
• Liaise with appropriate departments within Macmillan Education to define UX requirements for existing or new responsive websites, apps and product features
• Organise or review user needs research and insight
• Produce UX documentation and artefacts – user personas, user journeys, site maps, wireframes, templates etc.
• Produce paper and interactive prototypes to test concepts, demonstrate user journeys and determine scope limits
• Conduct user testing to identify usability issues on existing Macmillan products and validate and gain insight from UX artefacts and prototypes for new products
• Liaise with internal and external designers, developers and project managers to ensure that the quality and consistency of user experiences is maintained throughout the design and development process
• Liaise with Head of Experience Design and the Director of Digital Product to ensure fit with digital product strategy and best practice
Skills / Knowledge:
• Thorough understanding of user experience design and information architecture concepts, practices, patterns, tools and processes
• Solid understanding of digital product development best practices inc. agile, UCD, interface
• Design, lean, IA, A/B testing for software development and deployment
• Expertise with wireframing and prototyping tools – Axure +
• Good knowledge and experience of user research and usability testing processes, practice and tools
• Good understanding of responsive web design and mobile app design
• Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a highly-dynamic and rapidly-changing business environment
• Willingness, flexibility, creativity, and energy in taking initiative and assuming responsibility
• Understanding of education market and digital education products
Experience:
• Solid experience working in a senior UX role
• Experience across all areas of ‘hands-on’ UX work including: user research, persona creation, user journey design, information architecture, wireframing and template design
• Experience designing responsive websites and apps across multiple devices
• Experience creating and specifying interactive prototypes to test concepts, demonstrate user journeys, and determine scope limits
• Experience in conducting end user testing and usability analysis
• Experience with agile and collaborative user experience design and best-practice agile product management techniques.
• Experience working as a part of a team, balancing needs across stakeholders and in a complex business environment
• Experience working with teams transitioning from print to digital
