USA TODAY NETWORK is one of the top 20 digital companies in the country, sharing the list with Google, Facebook, and Amazon. We reach over 100 million unique visitors a month, which is more than Buzzfeed, Yahoo News, and Huffington Post, and have local brands present in 110 U.S. markets. We have a loyal following based on a combination of trusted, fact-checked journalism, innovative products, a deep commitment to our local communities, and are constantly iterating our products to be on the leading edge of media and technology.
Senior Product Designer
The USA TODAY NETWORK is seeking product- and strategy-minded problem-solvers who can weaponize their visual design prowess and understanding of user behavior to create beautiful, easy-to-use, multi-platform experiences. This goes far beyond improving newspaper websites. We’re transforming the ways in which information is gathered, experienced, and shared. Imagine a world where reading, watching, and listening are not passive acts... where the distance between journalist and consumer evaporates. Our mission is to empower communities to connect, act, and thrive.
You should be a hands-on designer, willing to roll-up your sleeves and dig deep, far beyond surface-level issues. You'll be joining a bright and talented product organization that's dedicated to making data-informed decisions. We need your expertise as we craft new ways to unleash and leverage the diverse and compelling content created by more than 4,000 journalists. Help us ensure we’re solving the right problems and conducting the right experiments, as we lead with digital and integrate it into every part of our business.
User experience is key. The ideal candidate needs to understand people -- who they are, how they interact with media of all types, and what our audience expects from our suite of products. The Sr. Product Designer should start every project by considering what data will be important to their work by partnering with Business Intelligence and gathering their input throughout the design process. The ideal candidate should think strategically about how to release features in small pieces, and regularly seek opportunities to validate their ideas with multivariate experimentation. S/he should take responsibility for following up on experiment results, thinking critically about how future design iterations can move the project’s key metrics.
We’re open to candidates based in Washington, D.C., New York City and McLean, Virginia (at Company HQ). All experience levels may be considered.
