DESCRIPTION
The Senior Municipal Planner will be a member of our Agency Staffing team, based in our Temecula, Ontario or Palm Desert, CA office. This position will involve assignments with local public agency clients, ranging from a long-term full-time assignment with a single client to project related assignments with multiple clients throughout the Inland Empire.
Our Agency Staffing team works directly with public agency staff assisting communities with a broad range of planning assignments. Typical duties could include managing and supervising assigned planning team members, processing development applications, preparing zoning code and general plan amendments, reviewing environmental documentation, serving as liaison to outside agencies and developing solutions for meeting the goals of our agency clients. This position requires the ability to provide a range of Senior Planner functions for our public agency clients.
We are looking for an energetic, talented and technically experienced Senior Planner to be an integral member of our northern southern California planning team.
The successful candidate will be one who:
- Possesses a wide breadth of urban and public agency planning experience
- Has experience working on long-range planning projects, including General Plan Amendments and Zoning Ordinance Amendments
- Looks to constantly expand their technical and professional knowledge and experience.
- Has experience working for public agencies, either as a consultant or as an agency employee.
- Manages time well in a fun/high-energy multi-project environment.
- Excels in a team environment while also exercising independent initiative and judgment.
- Demonstrates creativity and a healthy skepticism for conventional wisdom.
- Is committed to assisting public agencies and local communities achieve their goals.
- Housing related experience preferred.
On any given day, our Planner may:
- Execute and lead hands-on production efforts on a wide range of planning projects
- Provide direct support to project managers
- Directly interact with clients, stakeholders and the general public
- Supervise and mentor junior staff
- Participate in public meetings and present projects to elected officials for consideration
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- You’ll need a bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field.
- You’ll have a minimum of 5 years municipal/local government planning-related experience (as public agency staff or in consulting capacity) that demonstrate a successive increase in experience and responsibilities
- You’ll have the ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments independently under limited supervision
- You’ll have direct experience in preparing and producing planning studies and analysis
- You’ll have experience with current computer programs and technologies.
- You’ll have previous experience as either an employee of or consultant to local government agencies
- It would be helpful if you had AICP, LEED ND or other related professional certification or licensure and an understanding of research methods and analysis techniques
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $90,000-$135,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
