Senior Manager, ITSystemsand Administration

The Senior Manager, IT is responsible for managing the implementation, day to day operations and repair of all cloud, physical and virtual distributed server hardware, operating systems and distributed applications that support the business. They participate in the establishment and execution of a vision for the role of the distributed server architecture and direction while maintaining best practices for daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Managing and mentoring a team of System Administrators and System Engineers responsible for designing, building, supporting and ensuring high availability for all corporate servers, systems and services.
• Leading engineering projects such as capacity planning, virtualization migrations, hardware review and analysis, application optimization, licensing compliance, etc.
• Design and implement process improvement and critical metrics in support of strategic department goals and objectives.
• Provide input and guidance regarding the implementation of corporate IT Policies, governance, processes and systems throughout the Blackboard organization
• Managing Event, Incident and Change Management procedures and coordinating escalation of issues as required
• Partner with key members of Information Technology, Enterprise Applications, Hosting, and the Business to support ongoing business requirements, typically at the Director and above level.
• Ensures that service delivery and customer satisfaction exceed published service levels
• Facilitate the career development of members of the IT Systems and Administration team
• Document, track, and monitor problems to ensure resolution in a timely manner
• Provide 24/7 coverage and after-hours maintenance through on-call rotation and flexible work schedules.
Professional Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree, related technical training/certification or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in building, mentoring and challenging teams with diverse backgrounds and technical competencies.
• Preferred Certifications include: ITILv3, VMware VCA or VCP in Cloud Management and Automation or Data Center Virtualization, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, MCSA– Cloud Platform, MCSA – Office 365 and other Microsoft systems
Required Skills:
• Demonstrated in-depth experience developing operational processes and workflows such as server provisioning, ticket management and desktop support.
• Ability to lead team to achieve continuous improvement and effective use of metrics to communicate status and trends
• Working knowledge of data center and industry best practices such as ITIL and ITSM
• Strong project management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and resource demands.
• Ability to work in a very collaborative and service oriented team environment.
• Experience in staff performance evaluations, training plan development and performance management activities
• Experience working with various stakeholders to establish a strategic direction and evolve the distributed systems architecture to fulfill the needs of the business.
• Expert management skills of deploying, maintaining and repairing Azure/Office 365 environments, VMware, security systems, Active Directory, messaging, databases and other enterprise systems environments
• Demonstrated experience in data center technologies and operations such as VMware, storage, networking, security systems, etc.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization and presentation server systems to include VMWare v.5.0-v6.5, vSphere, vMotion and Vcops/Vrops.
• Knowledge and experience with SAN and NAS storage technologies
• Knowledge and experience in networking technologies including iSCSI and fibre channel storage environments
• Knowledge and experience in architecting failover/replication strategy to support high-availability requirements and disaster recovery
• Comprehensive knowledge of LAN/WAN technology and concepts
• Expert knowledge of Azure/Office 365, Messaging Infrastructure, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, Windows Server OS, Skype for Business, SQL and related technologies.
• Detailed understanding of infrastructure design practices, infrastructure operations, and security standards and frameworks.
• Must be able to exercise discretion, multi-task, and work independently.
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills required to interpret client business needs and identify appropriate technical solutions.
• Ability to work under aggressive deadlines and may be subject to extreme workloads.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and maintain a high level of service over a breadth of IT operations with a diverse team including hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and performance management
• Self-starter. Capable of creative and innovative thought and the ability to progress ideas from development through implementation.
Preferred Skills:
• Effective relationship management, communication, and presentation skills with demonstrated success dealing effectively with customers, vendors, peers and senior management
• Demonstrated ability to manage remote and local resources
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills, as well as solid hardware and software troubleshooting skills
