Company is constantly looking to add to our AMAZING team! Presently, we are in search of a highly engaged subject-matter-expert for our Senior Bilingual Math Editor position!
The focus of this role is to develop and/or supervise a major component, or a major portion of a component, within a single title program or series. You will develop prototypes and program content for the portion of the component or complete component with limited supervision. You will write and edit manuscript in Spanish and English, prepare art and photo specs, develop storyboards for digital content delivery, review production stages, and ensure quality of all content. You will also enlist and manage freelancers and authors as necessary. You have full responsibility to ensure that the component or portion of the component is completed on time, on budget, and in alignment with original product vision and guidelines.
You will provide constructive feedback as needed to subordinates. You will formulate solutions to schedule and quality problems and prepare accurate status reports on a regular basis. You will set up and/or participate in scheduled status meetings as needed.
This opportunity is remote and is a term of project, benefits eligible role, forecasted through June 2018.
Here is what you will get to do:
• Write and edit manuscripts and review page proofs in both English and Spanish
• Develop accurate, instructionally sound storyboards to support digital content
• Supervise editors, freelancers, and/or development houses
• Manage editorial schedules working with Production and editorial teams, both internal and external
• Monitor appropriateness of text material as to reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom of bias, and teachability, in both English and Spanish
• Write and provide art (and tech art) specs for artists and photo-researchers. Participate in evaluation of sketches and choice of photos
• Working with Product Management and Marketing, analyze competition and market trends and incorporate findings into program
• Ensure compliance with program guidelines, state standards, and assessments
• Participate, as appropriate, in market research efforts (e.g. prepare sample lessons, conduct phone interviews, attend focus groups, etc.)
• Participate in planning assigned projects; make creative suggestions that reflect an understanding of the market place and an awareness of customer needs
• Ensure that product responds to customer needs
• Provide marketing support, as appropriate, that may include sales and conference presentations, correlations to state guidelines, and workshop support for departmental products
Qualifications
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in Math or Math-related field or Editorial; Master’s is preferred
• Minimum 4 years of project management experience and staff management experience is essential
• Minimum 4 years of experience with instructional materials development or in an editorial capacity within bilingual educational publishing
• Teaching experience is strongly preferred
• Able to manage the day-to-day development of a variety of outsourced projects, making sure to prioritize work, with guidance of a manager as needed
• Able to work towards the development of consistent products by having a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the planning documents, such as planning charts, scope & sequence documents, etc.
• Proficiency with computers and software programs including MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Power Point
• Understands Company budgeting, project approval, and production processes
• Able to be strategic and efficient in planning and meeting schedules, budgets, and accuracy/quality goals
• Experienced in curriculum materials development, in instructional design development, and in the visual delivery of instruction
• Able to review complex project documentation, such as correlations to standards, and give the appropriate feedback or guidance to outsource vendors who are developing the documents
• Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
• Has the ability of editing and writing texts in English and Spanish, exhibiting an excellent handle of grammar and spelling in both languages
• Strong problem-solving skills in dealing with ambiguity in a fast-paced setting
• Proactive in anticipating, evaluating, and solving for issues to avoid disruptions in workflow
• Good verbal and written communication skills, strong team-building skills, and strong leadership skills
• Prepares and runs team meetings effectively, setting appropriate agenda, keeping everyone on task, and listening to all views
• Able to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities setting relevant priorities on a daily basis as the job requires multi-tasking
• Must be able to provide consistent and reliable feedback to outsource vendors in order to inform the correct development of products
• Commands work habits that are highly productive, working efficiently to develop quality content
• Able to articulate a “customer focus” in working with the team to conceptualize marketable product Must be able to turn great ideas into concrete product plans that fit the time-frame and resources available
• Able to actively pursue innovation to create instructional products of the future
