Company Christian Publishing is in search of a Senior Editor for their W Publishing division. The W Publishing imprint publishes narrative nonfiction at the epicenter of faith, creativity, and culture. Our successes include current New York Times bestsellers The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines as well as past mega-sellers Heaven is For Real and Same Kind of Different as Me. We are looking for a strong Senior Editor to oversee assigned projects from copyedited manuscript through production of the final product.
This position will also perform macro edits on a subset of W Publishing titles.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Editor include but are not limited to:
Essential Responsibilities:
• Performs substantive edits on a percentage of W Publishing titles.
• Maintains editorial schedules for all assigned manuscripts through RSuite and reviews all incoming changes from freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and authors. Updates manuscript documents with these changes.
• Works with authors and agents to secure permissions and releases and to obtain approval for text design, copyediting, cover design, and cover text.
• Coordinates creation of and proofreads book cover copy and catalog copy, occasionally writes and proofreads tip sheets. Updates reprint correction site.
• Attends and contributes to titling meetings and production meetings.
• Communicates with freelancers for each stage of the editing process.
• Oversees budgets for editorial expenses (copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers).
• Verifies corrections to manuscripts. Supports editorial staff in making manuscripts printer ready. Provides manuscripts to other departments as needed.
• Works closely with Grupo on simultaneous Spanish releases.
• Works closely with CDO and the cover team to assure covers and interiors are completed on schedule.
Qualifications:
Desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, education and skills:
Knowledge:Extremely familiar with Chicago Manual of Style. A strong grasp of proper English, grammar, and an eagle-eye for errors. Thorough knowledge of the Bible preferred, and knowledge of the book editorial process required.
Work Experience: Six years working in the book publishing industry preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related field
Industry Knowledge: Keeps up with trends in the publishing industry by reading trade magazines such as PW
Skills: Ability to handle many projects at once in various stages of completion. Editorial and team-based skills. Detail oriented
