DESCRIPTION:
We're looking to hire a highly technical, passionate individual responsible for support of a very large database infrastructure (hundreds of servers, thousands of databases) as part of a globally distributed team. This database infrastructure is composed of traditional RDBMS and NoSQL instances. You will work with engineers and operations team members to build, maintain, optimize and scale these database systems. You will be expected to make key technical decisions that routinely affect how our web sites perform.
Responsibilities:
Setup and maintain master-slave replication topologies for high-availability and read scaling.
Design and implement solutions in BASH or another scripting language to automate manual administrative tasks
Monitor performance and tune MySQL/NoSQL and Linux to optimize for different workloads
Maintain backups and perform point-in-time restorations
Work with developers to design and optimize SQL queries and schema and participate in application deployments
Serve in an on-call rotation as an escalation contact for critical database production issues and drive escalation/resolution of problems
Maintain and create documentation for HOWTOs, standards and best practices
QUALIFICATIONS:
Significant hands on experience managing complex production database systems, preferably at a large consumer-facing Internet site
Demonstrable expertise with MySQL and Oracle: server tuning, query optimization, replication strategies, storage engines, monitoring, capacity planning, backup, HA, etc.
Proficient in the scripting language of your choice (shell, Perl, PHP, etc) for monitoring and custom automation
Excellent Linux/UNIX experience in a production environment: Understanding of kernel settings that affect database performance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work with a diverse group of co-workers and internal customers is a must
Experience maintaining databases used to serve internet traffic.
BS or MS in Engineering or a related field is preferred
4+ yrs RDBMS experience in a production environment
Must successfully pass a background check
