The Risk Analytics department within Mizuho’s U.S. Operations (MUSO) is responsible for providing quantitative solutions across the risk stripes. This role is to lead the risk analytics team in the model development and quantitative analytics effort. Company seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as director of risk analytics. The Risk Analytics team is looking for a best of class, talented quant who thrives on solving business problems while managing the analytics team. The candidate will closely work with the risk stripes to support Mizuho’s capabilities in developing and enhancing the risk analytics, governance and stress testing framework.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will work closely with key decision makers within the Risk Management group to accomplish the following:
• Lead the risk analytics team of quantitative analysts to support the MUSO Risk Management team.
• Support the risk stripes including market risk, credit risk, liquidity risk and operational risk to understand and meet business needs through the appropriate design and implementation of the model(s).
• Work closely with cross teams to deliver Risk analytics programs and various projects such as DFAST, FRTB, Risk consolidation, Risk Identification, Risk Appetite and Stress Testing work streams.
• Work with key stakeholders to establish Risk Analytics governance, committees and policies.
• Liaise with team members to ensure all regulatory deliverables are met with sufficient evidence.
• Build or "tune-up" models to guarantee accuracy and relevancy in the current regulatory environment.(e.g. DFAST)
• Aid as a lead contributor in supporting independent Quant model creation for Mizuho Americas Risk which includes Market, Credit, Liquidity and Operational risk.
• Lead the review of crucial model development and complete in depth analysis on large data sets, formulate analysis and reports to support discussions on crucial analytics and model risks.
• Collaborate with the business and operation unit owners to discover and highlight risks associated with models and keep current with the newest developments in the regulatory environment, risk technology (external and internal) and financial services industries in order to provide expert guidance to stakeholders.
• Uses quantitative techniques to measure and analyze model risks and form opinions on the strengths and limitations of the respective models.
• Drive standardization across processes and reporting. Suggest and implement controls to improve efficiency & accuracy of existing processes. Build and rollout new training efforts to address knowledge gaps.
• Track all key action items and deliverables associated with the governance, metrics, and business management agenda
Ideal Candidate:
• 15+ years’ experience in a risk analytics domain working with DFAST, economic capital, market risk, credit risk, and liquidity risk stripes with an ability to lead the risk analytics team.
• A strong background in quantitative modeling with large and complex datasets.
• Modeling techniques supporting the following: Capital Planning, Stress Testing (DFAST and/or CCAR), ALLL, Loss Forecasting, etc.
• Statistical tools including but not limited to SAS, Matlab, Advanced Excel Macros, SQL and R
• Good knowledge of general market risk management, risk metrics and financial products, theories and concepts.
• Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to understand the perspective and priorities of others and lead the team.
• Capable of working well under pressure, independently and in teams to execute and deliver on-time multiple concurrent projects.
• Excellent PC skills, proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, SQL and Powerpoint.
• Highly organized as the role requires keeping up with the ever changing environment
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple projects.
• Solid understanding on the compliance and regulatory requirements to ensure proper implementation of overall programs such as DFAST, Volcker, FRTB and EPE etc.
Education:
• Minimum Master’s degree in Economics, Finance or Math
