Public Safety and Investigations Watchdog Reporter

Researches, reports and writes compelling journalism that continuously grows a fan base by informing and engaging readers. Acts as a public ambassador through community outreach and connects with readers through social media. Provides thoughtful analysis of complex issues and produces highly sophisticated content.
Produces self-directed work in collaboration with the content coach, content strategists and audience analysts to shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests on every platform. Contributes to the community’s greater good through revelatory journalism. Coaches and mentors less experienced journalists.
JOB DETAILS SPECIFIC TO ST. CLOUD
• Focuses on public safety and investigative/enterprise reporting
• Updates the watchdog page online
• Completes one exclusive watchdog project per quarter
• Acquires, creates and uses databases and updates the data as needed
• Uses crowdsourcing to boost reporting efforts and engagement
• Responds to reader tips, questions and reactions
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
• Develops high-impact investigative, revelatory and narrative stories that are tailored to individual audiences, on clearly defined subjects, across platforms and guided by metrics.
• Works toward becoming the community’s leading voice in area of expertise.
• Provides thoughtful analysis of complex issues and produces sophisticated journalism with minimal direction.
• Collaborates and connects with the community through storytelling and outreach (social media, on camera, forums, community leadership, etc.)
• Works with editors to evaluate what's working and what's not, and develops ongoing plans to better satisfy audience needs.
• Collaborates with content team to provide all the appropriate elements for the story (i.e. photos, videos and graphics).
• Captures and produces video.
• Promotes personal brand, the brands of colleagues and the institutional brand.
• Coaches and mentors less-experienced journalists.
• Provides great customer service, helping readers find answers and solutions.
• Performs other duties as necessary.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's or Master's in Communications, Journalism or equivalent in experience and education.
• More than six years of experience developing a personal brand and fan base.
• Experience with advanced storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.
• Experience with developing and reporting investigative journalism.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Understanding use of metrics, Videography, Microsoft Office Suite , Other: CMS publishing skills
